Pain near belly button

Baby is taking up all available space in your belly. Baby showers and buying things for the nursery are on your mind. Childbirth classes, baby will be here before you know it!

Pain near belly button

Postby brianswife » Wed Nov 09, 2011 12:23 pm

Ok so I'm 29 weeks today and for the past three days I have had the achy pain around my belly button. I have had it before but no it's been sticking around. What's worse is that my baby is very active (which I guess isn't worse) and she keeps kicking, punching, and rolling her elbows and knees over the tender achy spots.

Has anyone else had this and what did you do. Can you use a cold pack or warm pack?

I haven't this time, but I remember it from my first pg. I just toughed it out. But you could do a hot or a cold pack if it helped or even tylenol.

I also have it and it has freaked me out. I called L&D and they told me it could be ligament/growing pains. I felt satisfied with that and as long as you are paying attention to kick counts and movement patterns, I think you're OK. It's freaky though! I know intellectually the baby is not connected through my belly button, but it sure seems like it the way it hurts.

I talked to my doc about this and I am fairly certain that it is an umbilical hernia. Basically, there is a small hole in the muscles and tissue and other things can start protruding through during periods of extreme weight gain and especially pregnancy. I asked my Mom about it because I remember she had it too. She actually had it with me, her 3rd baby and I am on my 3rd time making it this far too. I am going to ask about having it fixed at the same time they do my c-section. For most people, it goes away after pregnancy, but it is likely something you were born with and if you plan on having more children, I would ask your doctor about it. I have found that taking my palm and rubbing it over my belly button in a clock-wise motion really helps. I try not to think about what I might be pushing back in. 8O

I have this pain as well and it is from an umbilical hernia. Hoping it heals on its own after birth. It can be quite painful at times :(
