We did, since I was on bedrest and had to miss one of my showers. It was pretty low-key, and it was mostly people I didn't know (it was thrown so that family on my husband's side that we never see could meet the baby).

I prefer a shower, since a lot of people can be a bit stressful for a new baby. If it's a small number of people though, it's nice.

We have planned a "Welcome to the World" Party for after our baby arrives. Since we have experienced so much loss, we have concealed this pregnancy from almost everyone, so we felt this was much more appropriate to celebrate her arrival.

No personal experience to share, but my next door neighbors just had "Sip and See" party for their 6 week old baby boy. They had a 3-hr window for people to come and see their baby. They offered light snacks and wine for the guests. I think it was a pretty cute idea.

I have been invited to a meet and greet b4...since this is baby #4...I kinda want to do something like this but I didn't for #3 so I feel kinda bad doing it for one and not the other.
