Long BH Contractions

Postby Gonzo1 » Thu Jan 16, 2014 11:12 am

So in the past week I have started to have tons of looooooong BH contractions, sometimes several minutes long and they've gone from once every few days to probably 10-15 per day. I'm in the middle of one now that has seriously lasted more than 5 minutes and is still going <- not an exaggeration. It's not painful, just uncomfortable, whole belly tightness. No squeezing. I spoke with my midwife on Tuesday about it and she was not concerned so long as I watch out for other signs of labor (pain, pressure, the usual). I've had about 80oz of water today and am sitting with my feet elevated...so that's covered...A bath seems to be the only thing that helps and of course it's the middle of the work day so I can't exactly jump in to one now.

The girls at work are joking that I am not going to make it to Feb before my little dude comes with all these contractions...I'm not too concerned about pre-term labor based on my midwife's lack of a strong reaction, I just find this to be very odd indeed.

I guess I am just wondering if anyone else has had or is having these crazy-long BH spells?

Yes, me. Mine started at 29wks and had me in hospital being checked for pre-term labour. They said I more than likely have an irritable uterus. Since then the tightening has been constant. There are days where it lasts all day and has me bed/couch ridden and other days it comes in intervals which sometimes even become regular. There isn't a cure or a known cause as there hasn't been much research into it so you just have to find a method that works for you to make it less uncomfortable. Good luck :)

Thanks y'all. Irritable uterus sounds right. I ended up feeling contracted nearly all day Thursday and half of Friday. Today so far is much better. Its amazing! Wonder if it has any impact on actual labor/delivery...swill do some more searching and talk to my midwife.

Wvmommy...I first got bh at 20weeks or so but they were short and very rare. It really picked up for me at 33 weeks with some light, regular contractions and over the past 2 weeks has turned into the long, 20-60 minute tightening that come and go all day. Really laying down the only thing that helps me at this point.

When they were lighter I found a warm Epsom salt bath, drinking tons of fluids and making sure to pee frequently helped. I also make sure to get plenty of magnesium in my diet.

I've been having them a lot more frequently in the past weeks and days. Mine don't last nearly as long as yours, gonzo, that sounds pretty crazy! Are you super distracted by them? Wvmommy, it seems to me like drinking water and changing positions seems to help. If I'm sitting, stand or shift, and if I've been up and around, sitting. I find it hard not to rub my belly when it's happening, and I feel funny with that happening at work.
