Rectal pain

Postby lydsh3 » Fri Feb 21, 2014 5:28 am

So I've had issues with constipation this whole pregnancy, but for the most part it's managed through Miralax. I haven't had any real pain or problems until yesterday. Usually with the Miralax I go once a day, but for some reason this week I didn't go for about 3-4 days. Well, starting yesterday, I was getting really painful cramping in my bowels and around my uterus. Between that and all the Braxton-HIcks, I felt like I was constantly having tension or pain down there. I didn't pay it much mind, because I figured it was just plugged up. Last night I went a couple times, decent amounts. However, the pain starting getting worse and worse. Sharp pains around my rectal area, not on the outside, but on the inside. I do get pains like this typically when PMSing or on my period (I have no idea why--anybody else get that?), but not even close to this severely or frequently. I was woken up in the middle of the night a few times crying out in pain. It was SOOO hard to even get up to go to the bathroom because any movement sparked really sharp, shooting pains. I went to the bathroom about 4 AM and saw that I'm spotting. It's definitely vaginal spotting. I was so weirded out because the two seem unrelated, so it just felt like something was wrong. I called the on-call doc to see if I should go in, but he didn't seem that worried. He said sometimes the baby's position can cause rectal pain? Has anyone else had pain like this? Any ideas why I'd also be spotting?

I cant answer the spotting but I can say I've had this... I had it later in my first pregnancy and I thought "OMG is this a contraction????" It hurt SOOO bad and I think I just sat there, frozen, gasping until it went away. It happened a few times after that (in the following weeks) but it wasnt consistent so I figured it was just something in my bowels/butt. I had a really hard time explaining it too... but I TOTALLY know what you're saying.
I have gotten it again a few times with this pregnancy and it catches me off-gaurd. I'm usually irregular/constipated during pregnancy too and I definitely have not been as strict with my stool softeners this time around as I was last time, so maybe that's why it's happening earlier for me?? Noooo idea.

I stumbled across this. For two days now I have been having this pain that shoots from where my left ovary should be all the way back to my butt. I have been constipated lately but it even hurts to walk. I'm taking it as growing pains?

Well, a little update... I had a cervical exam yesterday and started bleeding really badly, so they sent me over to labor and delivery. They were quite sure it was my cervix bleeding but wanted to make sure everything was ok. I talked with two doctors about the rectal pain, and neither seemed to really know what would be causing it. One said that each woman perceives pain differently and that he wondered if I'd feel some of that in labor? Neither really had an answer, but they both thought it was probably pregnancy related and neither seemed to think it was terribly concerning. Thanks for your stories, ladies! It's good to be able to talk to other people about what's going on and find out you're not the only one.

I can say that even though i felt this during my first pregnancy, I dont think I felt it during labor. Different kind of pain, for sure :)

Mexicanchick, the pains have actually gone away. I haven't experienced them for a few days now. I'm not really sure what was going on down there, but I'm trying to keep the poo coming regularly. I haven't gone yet today, though, so I don't know how well my efforts will work. I'm glad yours are feeling better, too!

Love, I had the same thought about how awful labor will be if just these pains have me crying out. The cervical exam that made me bleed was also incredibly painful. It's made me a little more afraid of labor...

I still have some time before (hopefully) labor, but if its anything close to the what I felt during my m/c....holly cow! Not trying to scare but it was intense. Have you read any books or anything yet?? Taken any birthing classes? I'm hoping the classes will help calm my nerves too.

So sorry to hear about your miscarriage! I have read some books and taken some classes... I know it will all be temporary and it will all be worth it. Are you planning to go natural or take an epidural?

Sorry, didn't see this post! I am going to try for natural, even though I might be crazy. That's the plan right now. I am going for a room with a jacuzzi tub and have a birthing ball and I figure billions of women have done it, so I can, too. Lol. My pains have been lots better, how about you?

Easing up. Every so often i get what i guess is considered growing pains.

I will try to hold out as long as possible for pain meds. My birthing video says longer the better since it wont stall the birth. We shall see

My doctor indicated that waiting until at least after you're dilated to 4 helps. Is that kind of what your doctor said?

I havent discussed with my OB yet but my birthing video I ordered off amazon said you should wait until 6-7 so you dont get stalled.

Hmmm. So yeah, you'll probably be in labor for awhile. What do you think you want to try to help with it?
