36 weeks and no more aspirin!! Advice please

Postby dreamingofbab » Fri Jul 10, 2015 8:01 am

Hi Lovely Ladies

Anyone else been on blood thinners / Baby aspirin and been told to stop at 36 weeks?
My doc originally said I would go onto Heparin towards the end, but Now he is saying to stop and I will be fine. I have one MTFHR mutation and am now really anxious. Not sure what to do!? Whether to insist on taking Heparin or just trust my doc and be positive?

I have read somewhere that the vessels are now big enough for clotting not to be an issue, but also read of someone losing a baby at 38 weeks due to clotting... So freaking out !

hello lovely,

No experience but i think if you're very concerned you should discuss this openly and honestly with your doctor. There's no point in putting both you and baby through this stress this late in pregnancy as every little bit affects baby.

Hope you get some clearer answers soon.

Ah Thanks Sam... Yes I think I will go earlier than planned next week and just ask... I might take a sneaky couple of half doses between now and then just so I can relax and enjoy the weekend

Just an update in case anyone was reading this and wondering... I saw my doc again and he did put me on Heparin injections to ease my mind.
I asked why at the beginning he said he would and then he didn´t, and he said it´s because the blood specialist didn´t think MTFHR had anything to do with my previous miscarriages, however I remember 2 other OBGYN´s saying it most definitely did, so we are being safe rather than sorry.

I know MTFHR is a highly debatable issue on whether it causes miscarriages or not, but I feel much better knowing I am doing all I can do prevent a potential clot, even if only a tiny chance.
