Bumbo seat question/ and swing

Postby mom2abandkb » Sun Nov 01, 2009 10:44 pm

I'm just wondering when your babies were able to sit in the bumbo. I am looking into getting one, but I don't think Kiran will be ready for a long time since her muscles are still weak and she can support her own neck only rarely.

Also I'm still looking frantically for a good supportive swing that can have her sitting fairly upright since she has severe reflux. I looked at the Fisher Price Papasan Swing Nature's Touch Cradle Swing and thought it might be perfect since it goes side to side and front to back, but it looks like it reclines too much for her. Any ideas?

thanks!

With my twins, I was able to start using the bumbos around 4 mos. We have an FP Papasan swing...it's an older model & has 2 seat settings..one is quite laid back, which is what I'm using w/ P right now & the other sits fairly upright. Often stores will have some models out..could you go by sometime & check them out. I know last time I was at BRU they had a FP papasan swing out.

We didn't use our Bumbo until 4 months. I think that's the recommended age. We didn't use anything until the age it recommended.

We have the PP swing and like the pp said, it has 2 seat heights. One reclines and one sits up more. DD still uses it occasionally at 15m (after using it a LOT when she was little). It's a great swing IMO.

We didn't try the Bumbo until she could keep her head up, which was around 4 months, I think. But unfortunately by that time my chunky monkey's thighs were so fat that she didn't fit in the seat. :(

I had a FP swing, but it was a normal swinging one -- I remember thinking that even on the most reclined setting it was still too upright. This is the one:

We had a bumbo seat but I am always looking for a combination toy. We ended up getting the Summer super seat and its awesome. Its a postioner, a mini exersaucer, and turns into a booster seat for when they are older. It is the same price as just the bumbo seat no tray. The super seat has toys that are attached to the 360 tray. I highly recommend it! more bang for your buck.

I think Olive James was between 3-4 months when she first began sitting in her Bebepod (like a Bumbo). We never had one for Isabel.

O.J. is almost 7 months now and knows how to get out of the Bebepod chair so I think we're almost done with it.

We started using the bumbo seat at 4 months and baby LOVED her papasan swing since she was tiny.
For reflux and premies I heard really good things about the napnanny:

my little Kali also have reflux issues and just recently started some new meds for it.. anyways we use the fisher price soothing motion glider and she loves it. (It's basically the only thing she will sleep in). We bought ours used on kijiji but you may be able to find one on craigslist. We got it because it had good reviews about preemies and reflux.

Here is the fisher price link:

I started using the bumbo for Desi when she was about 8-10 weeeks adjusted (so about 5 months actual), and she's done just fine in it.

Also, sometimes preemies have sensory issues, so I wanted something soft, muted, and not too flashy so I got the FP My Little Lamb Papasan cradle swing and vibrating seat, and desi loves them both. It reclines and sits up, and rocks side to side or front to back.

We got a Bumbo and LO used it from about 4 months. We actually ended up sending it back because the paint started coming off it onto LO's hands which we thought was really worrying so we got a refund and it went back to the manufacturers. ( I will do a separate post warning about this).

I dont know how long my LO would have been able to use it for though as it is quite tight fitting - I wouldnt buy one again.
