Yesterday I had to feed my little one every 2 hours for a few of the feedings b/c he was screaming. He sucked down the bottle so I know he was definitely hungry. Do you think that could be why last night he had trouble sleeping longer than 2 to 2 and a half hours needing a bottle? I hate to let him scream until the 3rd hour during the day but could I have messed up his sleeping pattern? I am exhausted. :(

Well according to your ticker, your LO is just over 6 weeks old? That's pretty normal, to want to eat every two hours!

There is no sleeping "pattern" at this early stage, and the very last thing you'd want to do is let your newborn scream if he's hungry. Feed him and worry about sleep "routines" later. It will come.

Exhaustion, also, pretty normal for a mama with a newborn. We've all been there.

blue - I am wondering b/c he has slept longer than that before I switched him. I Just don't want to mess him up. He went from sleeping four hours to two hours. Just seemed strange to me.

I can understand that, as infant sleep is pretty darn tops of our list as mothers!! but I really think that they don't have a pattern yet. both my kids would STTN, then get up every 1.5 hours, then every 4 hours, then back to every 2 hours, for the first couple months.

I think 6 weeks is growth spurt time, too, right? He is probably just hungrier. I wouldn't worry about "messing up" his sleep quite yet.

blue - ok, that makes me feel better. I thought maybe I screwed him up and then I was worried about him screaming b/c he was hungry. I just did what was natural and fed him. Even though I am a second time mom, I forgot how it was this early on. True - I do think now he is going through a growth spurt. Thanks for your input - it did put my mind at ease, especially b/c you said your LO did the same thing, no patterns as of yet. When do u recall then STTN? I think my first LO was 5 months old.

STTN, like all night long, no wake ups?

M's baby book says she was completely STTN (from between 7 - 8 pm to 7 am) by the time she was 9 months old.

Leo will be 9 months on January 13, and he's alllllmost STTN. He usually goes to sleep at 7:30, and will sleep until between 5 or 6:30 am. Then he comes into bed with me, we nurse, and he'll sleep again until 7 or 7:30.

Sometimes (like this week for some reason, I think he's going through teething or something) he'll wake up once. But he was not waking up for a month before this week. Christmas night he was up THREE times, I think because of all the excitement and he missed his afternoon nap.
