So my son will be 10 weeks old this Friday and still isn't eating the amount of food he should be. Some of you may remember he was in the NICU for two weeks because he wouldnt eat and had to be tub feed and really, the feeding issue still exists. AT 10 weeks old he still eats no more than 1 to 2 ounces a feeding and unfortunately feeds ALLLLLL THE TIME!

So my question is this. Have any of you ever expierenced this and #1 what was the propblem and #2, when did it start getting better if it did.

Kiran is almost to 8 pounds at 5 months old and still takes about 2 1/2 ounces every 2 to 3 hrs during the day and at night, sometimes sleeps for 4 hrs and then needs a feeding and then back to bed.

but she is thriving on that and we have added rice cereal to every bottle plus MCT oil to help fatten her up.

what is your son's weight? If he is gaining fine, then I wouldn't worry too much about increasing the amount. He may not be ready yet. We have to increase Kiran's amount very very slowly or she will most likely vomit an entire day from the increase.

does he have reflux? maybe the nipple is too hard for him to suck and makes him tired? or are you breastfeeding? maybe if you're breastfeeding, consult a bf expert, a nurse, doctor to see if you have a good latch?

I did find that with Kiran when we added the cereal we had the wrong nipple and she was getting tired and frustrated and couldn't eat right. So we changed the nipple and now she sucks down the 2 1/2 oz like a champ almost every feeding.

also, are you feeding on demand or on a schedule? We feed Kiran on demand and she is doing great like that. She was on a schedule in the NICU and basically would scream for over 1/2 between feeds because she was starving. Then she would be too tired to finish the whole bottle and in turn would lose weight like that.

Well, Dominic is 10 weeks and 12 lbs 9 oz which I know is big but he was born 10.9 so overall he is on track at gaining 2lbs in 10 weeks. We are not BF any longer since he was having sooo many tummy issues. We recently went to a GI specialist who thought he may have acid reflux however the medicines don't seem to do a damn thing so I'm wondering if the diagnosies was incorrect. Regarding the cereal in his milk, I'm afraid to do that since he has tummy issues, I'm thinking that might make it worsel, not sure though. And we feed him on a demand schedule which means litterally during the day, he feeds like every hour, maybe a little longer and at night, between 10:30 and like 6am every 2.5 to 3 hours.

audrey is almost 11 weeks and eats about the same as dominic, especially lately. she basically wants to graze all day.

if you are really wanting him to eat more and have fewer feedings, maybe you can try to put him on a schedule and extend the time bt day feedings to 1 hour 10 minutes and get him used to that, then go for an hour and 15 minutes, etc. and offer him a bit more to eat at each feeding, like 2-3 oz or something. he might not like it at first but he'll probably adjust.
