Wjen did you give first bath/wash?

Postby babyhelstrup » Tue Feb 09, 2010 12:03 pm

At almost 2 wks i still have not washed her. the cord fell off a couple days ago, so she can get a real bath now. but she does not like her diaper changed let alone naked... so not sure how to clean her wo really pissing her off.

Also a little nervous abt doing it..

And how often do you really need to clean them? not like they do a whole lot to get dirty. plus heard that cleaning to often is not good for their skin. the iols are actually good for them....

Her cord fell off at 5 days, so i gave her her first bath at about 10 days. She hated it. Screamed bloody murder. That scared me but shes gotten much better and actually likes it now. I bathe her now about twice a week just because i like how she smells after and she finally enjoys it but before i was doing once a week because i really just dotn think babies need a bath more than that at this age.

My kids always got there first full bath as soon as their cords fell off, and sponge baths every other day or so. Just make sure to keep her warm while you are doing it and she won't get as upset.

As soon as that cord fell off in the tub he went. He hated it the first few times but what worked for us is we put one of those foam bath pads in the tub,,,,,, filled the tub up with enough water to saturate the foam pad, then put him in. This way he was always warm and we just used a little cup to pour warm water over him. He loves it!

We gave our LO his first sponge bath when he was 10 days old. Then once his cord fell off (about 2 1/2) weeks we gave him his first full bath. We will wash him about twice a week. My little guy HATED the sponge bath so when it came time for the real deal I made sure he was EXTRA sleepy. That seemed to help so much. I also wash his hair after i get him put in his towel and really warmed up. HTH!

Am I bad that J's cord fell off over the weekend and I haven't even thought about giving him a bath yet? Not even a sponge bath?

We sponge bathed once a week until her cord fell off and then twice a week after that. She doesn't seem to know what to think of baths. She hated the hammock for sponge bathing but seems to like sitting in the water and me pouring water over her with a cup. I just make sure that she doesn't get cold or air blowing on her while she's wet.

my DD hated (H-A-T-E-D) getting wiped down with the washcloth but i still did it like 2-3 times a week when she was first born. man, she would scream ... we had to wait a whole 3 weeks 8O before her cord fell off (late bloomer) and then we were finally able to put her in the tub and she LOVED it! we started only bathing her in the tub 1-2 times per week but now at 6 months we give her a bath every other day (she has sensitive skin).

you might be surprised and your LO could love the bath - good luck!

Hailey had her first bath at 10 days old, she still had her cord (but my midwife said its good for them to get wet, as long as you pat them dry). Her first few baths I just took her in the tub with me, it was alot more calming for her as she would nurse while I bathed her, of course I had hubby's help getting her in and out. Now she is 7 weeks and LOVES her bath. But from the day we came home from the nicu (at 10 days) she was bathed dailey.

We have Elisabeth her first bath at one week, but it was more of a wipe down because of her appointment the next day, lol. Her cord fell off at nine days. The hospital gave us a great tip for bathtime. Have the room warm and keep the lo wrapped in a receiving blanket while in the water. That way you can keep the body parts you aren't working on covered and warm. Elisabeth used to hate bathtime but now loves it. DH helps out with bathtime now to keep it short. I do the actual bathing and DH has the towel ready to dry her off. :)
