Cord fell off, but now a little blood

Postby babyhelstrup » Wed Feb 17, 2010 1:58 pm

the cord fell off abt a week ago. Her belly button is a little bloody. It looks like dried blood and is not actually bleeding. But is that normal after the stump falls off?

The exact thing happend with my DD...our doc said it was normal. He explained why...but I don't remember exactly what he said! (guess it's the lack of sleep these days! :) ) The dried blood also 'fell out' of DD's belly button within a week, and now her belly button is perfect and cute :)

totally normal.

You can wipe the dried blood off if you like.

My sons dropped off but didn't heal up for ages, it was a bit weepy and icky....not infected just not healed. The dr said it was called a granuloma and gave me some cream to heal it up, or you can use some salt water too.

DH accidentally RIPPED Archer's cord off during a diaper change, and there was a bit of dried blood for a couple of weeks. Our pediatrician said it looked like it was supposed to, and to possibly expect puss.
