Bumbo Chair

Postby Twinklebug » Tue Mar 30, 2010 12:41 pm

How old do you think an infant has to be to start using a bumbo chair? My son is a little over 6 weeks and can hold his head up-he has great neck and head control. I'm wondering if he is too young to start sitting in a bumbo chair? Does anyone who has experience with the Bumbo Seat have any suggestions?

Great! :) I think I am going to get one and try it because I am getting bored of putting the twins in the bouncers all the time, and we only have one swing. I need some variety, and so do they ! lol

it can be used as soon as your DS has sufficient neck strength to hold up his head

Just an update for anyone who's interested. I went out and got the Bumbo Seat last night. My little guy loved it right away. He started smiling and turning his neck to look at everything. So it can be used this early.

My little girl did not love it as much. She just kind if gave me a what the heck look and started fussing. So I guess like with anything, it depends on the baby. Good thing I only bought one bumbo !

I think I'm who NikkiJames was talking about :)

Yeah, we started it early and she loves it. Not so much anymore b/c she wants to stretch and wiggle.
I think it's kind of a waste of $ though. Wish I hadn't of bought it. Maybe she will use it some more.

I thought you had to wait till they could sit up.. All you need to do is wait for head control.. My LO is pretty good at it. Unless she is tired. Then she is a total bobble head.

wow!!! my LO is 3 months and I am still not comfortable with him in it!!
His head control is great but he still slumps over a bit. I thought they had to be sitting on their own!
Maybe I'll try a bit more... Don't want it to go to waste, and we need variety too!!

I started putting DD in her Bumbo at about 3 months old. She really wasn't a fan of it, though. Like PP said, it honestly depends on the baby! If you feel comfortable, and your l/o has good neck control and seems to like it, I'm sure its fine! :)

I have one as a gift from DH's workplace. I'll use it, but I'm going to wait until she can sit up, because I'm worried about the stress on her spine from being put in that position before she's ready. I'd look into it a bit more before using it too much at this point, IMO.

And of course, as the manufacturer cautions, only use it on the floor, never on a tabletop or chair. Babies can apparently arch back sharply and flip right out of them. Be careful!

On the positive side, a close friend of mine swore by hers, used it all the time. I'm looking forward to trying it out :)
