Birth control??

Postby mamadru10 » Tue Jun 15, 2010 11:07 am

I'm not sure what to do. I'm BF so from what i understand that limits my options to non-hormonal or the minipill... I can't use the copper iud and DS! is a pill baby, so safe to say that they are not effective at all for me. What other options do I have? i dont want to get pregnant again right away l/o is my miracle baby and I want to enjoy him every chance I get and realy don't want to stop BF him either it would just tear me appart emotionaly... any reccomendations? I'm so scared that I'm going to get pregnant again soon. TIA

I'm in the same boat. I have two daughters 13 months apart and it's chaos. It has also taken a toll on my body.

I am BF both my DDs but breastfeeding does not seem to delay ovulation for me - got AF right from the beginning with DD

I heard the minipill was not all that safe, and I get sick on hormonal contraception anyway. I dont like the idea of an IUD and not sure how we would go using the diaphram?!

I'm thinking, Rhythm method, Billings method, Withdrawal and crossing my fingers

I'm also allergic to latex, Trojan makes one that's polyeurathane, I think they're called Trojan Supra, they're in a gold box, and I haven't had any issues with those.

Progestin only bcps are for breastfeeding moms...I took it while I was bfing...it is called Jolivette... It has .35 mg of progestin in it and no estrogen. My doc put me on it 1 month after I had my son.I recently switched since I am no longer bfing.

There are, indeed, non-latex condoms that don't have spermicide. They are pretty easy to find in just about any grocery and/or drugstore too. We use condoms since I can't do any sort of hormonal birth control (gives me 3-4 migraines a week and messes up my thyroid when I do any kind of hormone BCP).

If DH throws a fit about it tell him that it's condoms or he can invent male birth control and go on that :P

ETA: you could also use a feminine sponge or get fitted for a diaphram

I think Merina(sp?) IUD is safe while BF'ing ask your OB. I'm also allergic to latex and spermicide but I ONLY use Trogans non-spermicidal and do just fine :D We used only Trojan condoms between both 2DD & 3DD and 3DD and this baby and I never got pregnant and I get pregnant pretty darn easy. So I say try them! I was also BF'ing and It wasn't till I started the NFP and the month my therm battery was low and I didn't realize it that I got pregnant.

Just wanted to add, that if you use the symptothermal method of NFP, you don't have to rely just on your thermometer....there are multiple cross checks, which makes it more effective :)
