Weight Loss after delivery

Postby jpierce83 » Wed Jul 16, 2008 9:19 am

Hello all. Just wondering what kind of weight loss you guys experienced within the first week of giving birth. I've heard that with all the water retention and other things going on in your body you only lose about 10 pounds when the baby and placenta are delivered. I was just curious to see what everyone else has experienced. I'm due in 28 days and I am just super uncomfortable. I know most of it has to do with the actual baby but I think the extra weight I've gained aside from that is stressful on my body too. Just want to know what I've got to look forward to :) Thanks for your input and congratulations to everyone who has already given birth.

With my first, I think I was within 5-8 pounds of my pre-pregnancy weight after two weeks (I was bfing at the time). I don't think I ever really lost those last five.

With this one, it took me quite a bit longer, but I'm actually now 13 pounds below my prepregnancy weight and a pound below where I was when I got pregnant with #1. I am bfing again, but have been doing it longer this time around. I definitely credit that with helping get rid of all the extra weight (along with eating a healthy, low-cal diet).

I lost 40lbs in the 1st 2 weeks. Partly b/c I retained SO much water during pg, & partly b/c I did not eat much during that time. Sleep was so much more important, so when I had a free moment from the babies, I went to bed! After things calmed down a bit & I got more used to the lack of sleep, I started eating & my weight loss stopped until a month or so later when I started working at it!

I have been wondering the same thing. I gave birth 1 week ago today. When I got home Friday I weighed myself and had only lost 10 pounds and I had an 8 pound 10 ounce baby! Talk about frustrated. Finally two days ago I lost 4 pounds overnight and last night another 2, so hopefully some of it will start to drop off faster. Considering I still have 35 pounds to go I won't be holding my breath!

I think I lost around ten to twelve immediately. Within two weeks, I was down at least twenty. I remember having to pee constantly - way more than when I was pregnant - so I know I had a lot of water weight. I am now down 25 pounds from delivery and 18 pounds from pre pregnancy weight (yes, you read that right, I only gained 7 pounds in my pregnancy).

The belly, however, is still flabby and loose - I think that takes a lot longer to firm up.

I gained 41 lbs. By 2 weeks PP, I was down 20 lbs. By 5 months PP, I had worked off the last 20.

I had put on 23 lbs in the last month of pregnancy due to pre-e (the only weight I put on). Everyone kept telling me I would lose it all no problem since it was water weight. I stepped on the scale 2 days after having her and only lost 7 lbs! I was pissed! She weighed 6lb 6oz!! I was like, "so, I lost HER and that's IT!?" My swelling got way worse after giving birth to the point of painful and itchy. At my two week check up, I had lost 22 lbs and now, I actually weigh less than I did pre preggo!! It will come off all of a sudden one day.

I gained 7lbs during my pregnancy. I am down 22lbs now. I lost 20lbs during my first tri because of m/s, so I don't know if you can say I technically gained 27lbs throughout. I am peeing gallons it seems like so I think most of it is water weight. I seem to be losing on average 2lbs a day.

Thanks everyone! Sounds like I won't have this 30 pounds hanging on forever :D I have a lot of swelling in my feet, ankles, legs and hands so I am hoping that the water weight will go away pretty quickly. But I am comfortable with having to work off the last 10-15 pounds.

I had a c-section and was appalled at how big my belly still was at 1 week post partum. But without any real effort I'm happy to say that by around 4 weeks pp I had lost 30 lbs and was back into my regular clothes. My shape is still not exactly what it was pre baby but I'm working on that! I'd still like to lose another 10-15 lbs but am not too hurried for that too happen.

i gained about 40lbs during pregnancy...and when i did weigh in like 3 days pp i had lost 25lbs...i'm still working on the last 15, i also am BFing..but i'm kinda staying steady at where i was, but i'm not "working" at it to much, just trying to keep my baby girl happy...i think once i get back to work i'll drop some more of the baby weight! don't loose hope, and u will def be more swollen ur first week home, so don't feel bad about it :) GL!!

I gained 31 lbs, about 15 of that in the last month I think. I was so swollen! When I got home from the hospital a week after giving birth I was down 20 lbs. Ryan was only 6lbs 6oz so a lot of that was water retention! Then I gained back some afterwards. Lost all my baby weight plus the 'extra' by the 10 month mark.
