Nursing clothes (bras/tanks/tops)

Postby january » Tue Oct 28, 2008 1:37 pm

I'm planning on picking up a couple nursing bras & tanks (I'd like to bring them with me to the hospital so I have to pick them up in advance) and am curious to know people's preferences.

There seems to be a million different styles of nursing tops... which do you find to be the most comfortable & easiest to use?

What brand/store do you like the best? I've really only found things at Motherhood.

I'm a little nervous about the tanks and other tops (t-shirts, etc) because I've never been a person who goes around without a bra. I'm not that well-endowed and don't like the nippley look and everything. I'm afraid that I'm going to get these tops & tanks and be too uncomfortable with my appearance in them to wear them. When I'm at home, who cares, but I'd be self-conscious going out like that. Is there something about PP breasts that would change the scenario I'm envisioning?? lol.

Also, any advice on what size nursing bras to get?? I'm typically a B... since being pregnant, I've gone up to a C but it's barely a C. I can't imagine getting SO big that I'll go all the way through a C and up to a D. Or am I just delusional about how big these puppies are going to get??

I'm typically a B too, and got a C cup nursing bra. But it really depends on the type of bra - they all run so different. I think you'd be safe going one size up.

I got my nursing tanks from Comfy Kangaroo online - http://www.comfykangaroo.com/. I love them. There's a detachable sports bra, so you can wear the bra and tank together or each separately. I don't like to nip either, and if you wear this with breast pads you'll be fine.

I got my nursing bra at Walmart and it is THE most comfortable bra that I have ever worn. And I got my tank at Target and it's also great (and cheap). In regards to wearing the tank, I am a layers girls, so I almost always wear a tank under sweaters and t's and that is what I do with the nursing tank.

I LOVE Target's nursing tanks. I like layers too and they're coming and convenient. It's especially great for nursing in public because the tanks keep my stomach covered. :-)

Yes I recommend getting measured. You may also want to just buy a couple of nursing tops and get remeasured after your milk comes in. Some people get bigger when their milk comes in. I would recommend waiting until about 2w PP. I was a 36C pre-pregnancy and I am now a 38F

Like lealea, I was a B before pregnancy, but now 6 weeks pp I still need DD nursing bras! I love the Walmart brand bras and tanks - I would recommend getting both - at least two of each.

Holy crap -- B to a DD? Man, if only I could keep them like that (sans sagginess)! Lol.

I've seen the nursing tanks that Target has online, but the Walmart ones -- have you gotten them in the store or did you get them online? I've looked at Walmart a couple times before (there's one 1/2 mile away from me so I'm there a lot!) but have never been able to find anything. If you got them in the store, were they in the bra/underwear section or the maternity/baby section?

Thanks for all the great advice!

I got mine at the store. The brand is BreastForm and they are in the bra/underwear section. I found them beside the "special" area...like the sticky cups (when you can't wear a bra) and the fake spanx.

I got my Walmart ones from the store also - they were next to the nursing bras - the Walmart by me only had about 4 left when I bought mine and I've looked for more since and they are always out :dunno: Good luck!

Aha! On my shopping trip to Walmart yesterday I found nursing bras & some nursing nightgowns. :) No tanks though.

Has anyone worn the Old Navy nursing tanks? I just noticed they're part of that $10 Sale they're having this weekend.

I got my tanks from Walmart and Target. I live in them when I am at home. I bought XL and they fit great. I have black and white ones. I wish I could find them in beige.

The Walmarts in my area just started carrying more and they have changed the packaging. They were selling the nursing stuff in bags now everything is on a hanger. Prior to the new packaging, the storewas very limited on what they had an I could neverfind my size.

I love Bella Materna nursing bras...so comfy. I use the Anytime Nursing Bralet and they are super easy cause they don't have any clips you just pull it down over your breast.
