So annoyed at some people's opinions!!

Postby Georgie82 » Mon Jan 02, 2012 12:58 pm

I just need to vent!!! So I'm not taking off any maternity leave as I'm self-employed, but I will work part time until the baby is 6 weeks which then he will go into day care. I have had so many stay at home mom's criticize me and tell me how I should really reconsider. Its really starting to piss me off. Like I'm choosing to neglect my child or something  Its just frustrating as I don't get the luxuries of taking a year off to spend with my child I don't need it thrown in my face! Like mind your own business right? Some people just don't think!

Thanks for letting me vent

That would be frustrating. Like you said, it's not like you wouldn't WANT to take the time off, it's just a matter of not being ABLE to do so. Keep your chin up. You're not the only working Mommy out there! Everyone goes through this...it doesn't make you any less of a mom. You're doing what you need to do for your child!

Thanks DueinMay! Its so true! I've just been getting it from so many people lately its really getting to me. Its like I want to say something mean back so that they realize how inappropriate their comments are. I know in the long run I have an upper hand being self-employed with a family as I won't have to miss out on anything in the future as I'm the boss...but it'll just be hard in the beginning. That also annoys me when people get into me how hard its going to be on me. Like I don't know this enough already I need you to rub it in....thanks... :D anyways thanks for your post!

Ive been having the same issue. I am also self-employed, and am taking only 5 weeks off for leave. With two toddlers in day care and a newbron, even the 5 weeks is going to be a stretch money wise! And people constantly say to me "Oh, you should take time off. You are going to put a BABY in DAYCARE?!" like it is the most awful thing is the world! I try to just ignore them-my twins were in daycare from 6 weeks and are totally fine (and more socially adjusted than many of the SAHMs kids that I know...) but sometimes I really would just like to give these opinionated people a piece of my mind :?

Are you taking ANY time off? I hope you can swing at least a week for recovery. :(

Other than that, tell people to shut it. You do the best thing for you and your family.

This is so true...although I haven't had anyone comment on it yet to me personally!
The time I'm taking off is because I'll get paid maternity leave for that period. But once that's up, we really can't afford for me to be out of work! I wish I could take 6 months or a year, but it's just not going to be possible.
I'm very lucky that both my folks, and my in-laws live in the same city, so we may have some help from them, as well as some childcare, but going back to work is still a financial neccessity.
