"Blowouts" in diapers? Poll

Postby Lindsey » Tue Oct 06, 2009 2:28 pm

I have never experienced a "blowout" (and hopefully I won't, lol- its not something I feel like I've missed out on) but I always hear people talking about them and especially those that use disposables.

Just wondering how common this is. Both of my sisters have had this happen with their children. I've never had any issues with disposables in that regard. We use Pampers Swaddlers & Cruisers.

I said yes because I had a few with ds, his nappies were horrendous sometimes 8O I never did with Ó in either cloth or sposies but her poo has been fairly solid since birth. She was fomula fed as well though so that probably had something to do with it.

My DS has ridiculously explosive poos, and also pees like crazy. When we have used disposables (mostly while traveling), we have gotten leg and up-the-back blowouts with poo, and pee escaping out the top on more than one occasion.

When he's in cloth? Never. And you would not believe the one-week-without-pooping explosions our cloth has contained!

Nope! We use cloth on DD. Cloth contains it all, even the runny BFing poos!

With my boys, they were FF and I used sposies and man...we had some serious blowouts. All out the back and the legs. It was not fun.

No- I haven't CDed for quite awhile. I quit soon after I got pregnant with O.J.

I have been thinking about going back to cloth though- especially since we don't go out often with the girls.

Had many, many blowouts for the first 6 months or so....we used Huggies. I have also had one blowout with cloth, but that is it.....I will be interested to see how well cloth holds up with a newborn.

We use Huggies and have had many blowouts (none recently though). Luke used to have horrible poops :( He wouldn't go for 3 or 4 days and then he's finally poop in his exersaucer (must be the way he was sitting) and wowsers... let's just say thank God that seat is machine washable! He doesn't have blowouts anymore since starting solids :) His were just so forceful.. if it weren't for that, I don't think we would have had problems :)

No, we use Pampers and have never had a blowout. She was 100% breastfed, if that makes a difference.

Layla is breastfed and can make some naaaasty messes in a sposie, but we never have blowouts in her BumGenius diapers. At first I wanted to have disposables for when we're out, but now since she's such a powerful pooper, I feel safer with her in a cloth diaper when we're out because we never get any kind of leak. Sposies are getting phased out in our house :)

We got them a lot when DS was EBF. After solids, we haven't experienced any.

Seroiusly I have a picture of one of her blowouts that would make your eyes fall out. She had poo EVERYWHERE. Solid from her bellybutton down to under her bum and about an inch or two deep inside the nappy! It was crazy! She hadn`t pooped for about 12 days and it ALL came out at once!! She had poo out the sides, on her legs, on her foot, all over the changing mat and on me. I had to bath her TWICE to get her clean. The first time the water just went browny orange! lol.

That must not make a difference as Isabel and Olive James were/are FF and never had one.

I guess you just never know.

Thanks for the replies ladies. I know this was a kind of weird poll, lol- but I had just seen someone post about a blowout again and was wondering if I was the only one who hadn't experienced that.

the worst was when i was traveling alone with him at the airport, 20 mins before boarding, he had the BIGGEST blowout all the way up his back. i almost cried haha.
