Sleep poll

I`ve heard so many people say the second child sleeps better than the first, but I`m wondering if this is really true?? Maybe it`s just our expectations are lower with the second?? I`m preparing for the worst, but hoping to be pleasantly surprised, lol.

Mine were about the same. DD #1 sttn at 10 weeks and DD #2 sttn at 8 weeks. So technically #2 was better, but in the first few weeks she was actually worse, because she would only sleep on us...not in her crib!

Both mine are horrendous nappers. But my second is definitely better than my first. He sleeps on his own, whereas my first had to sleep on us 100% of the time.

I don't know yet about sttn, my son hasn't hit that stage yet and my daughter hadn't at his age yet either.

Out of neither of them being good sleepers in general, my son (my second) is way better than my first. She did set the bar quite low though I must say

P is right down the middle. A was a great sleeper, sttn at 2 mos w/o me doing anything. D was horrible...didn't sttn till 15 mos. P still wakes 2-3 times/night, but if I feed her she'll go right back to sleep. She doesn't just scream for hours like D would!

DS did not sleep though the night until he was about 12 months (even now at 2 years old - he'll get up once in the night (I was exhausted as a new mom!)

My second DD is 3 months old and sleeps through the night (so happy!!!)

Can't say for sure, but I know when I had DS we lived in a smaller urban condo, DH was working long hours, DS was colicky and I was a first time Mom, so if he even breathed funny, I picked him up to soothe him, so he wouldn't wake DH or neighbours.

Soooo I too was bracing for another year of bad nights with my new daughter BUT to my surpise...its been really easy this time.

With DD, I have a big house on a forested acreage, DH can sleep in the guest room if he really doesn't want to be disturbed, and I'm way more relaxed. I learn to let DD soothe herself a bit more. I'm better at telling when cry is a "i need you to do something mom" type of cry vs. a "Im just having a bit of hum to sleep" type of cry!.

Mind you that is just speculation. It could simply be that they are just different kids!!!
cheers

Actually thinking about it, Ailyn has definitely been sleeping better since we moved out of our apartment and into our house - less noise for one!! She sleeps really well now, as long as I don`t miss her naps during the day anyway, lol. She was hard work for the first 7 months, but I guess that was more about me learning about what having a young baby meant. lol. Didn`t help going through the sleep regression at 4 months when my sister was posting fb statuses about how her baby (same age) was sleeping 12 hour stretches!! Grr. (I was lucky to get 3 from 4~7 months)
I`m looking forward to the night snuggles and feeds again though. I miss that with Ailyn now. (Yep, I`m crazy!!! lol)

my second and third daughters slept better than my first because I knew how to put them to sleep from the beginning. With my first, I always nursed her to sleep and she never learned to put herself to sleep. With my next two babies, I would make them wake up and then put them down drowsy.

hm.. hard question.
Savannah was a great sleeper in the beginning but HORRIBLE napper. She never had her nights/days mixed up which was BETTER than mason but mason napped like a champion.. Looking back this was probably why he was up all night.. LOL.. nevermind..

ANyway. Savannah sleeps for longer stretches then mason ever did but Mason STTN at 10 weeks and it took savannah until she was about 4.5 months.

When she wakes up she is MUCH easier to get back to sleep than mason ever was. She is a thumb sucker so that helps. :)

She is also a lighter sleeper than he was.. hard question. ;)
