It's been a while since I introduced cereal and 1st foods. My DD just turned 4 months on the 3rd and for some reason I feel she's not quite ready yet, but plan to try soon. when did you ladies start your LOs on it?

We started when he showed immense interest when we were eating. So maybe around 4-5 months. When we gave him his 1st oatmeal he right away opened his mouth for it.

I let me son start tasting at 4 months exactly.. He wasn't really ready.. We tried banana's... Then, about a week ago, we tried again with sweet potatos and he LOVED them.. Munched them right down.. I only give him solids every so often.. Not every day.. He's almost 5 months.

We did sweet potato, then avacado, then banana at 6.5 months. We really never did much cereal, besides a bit to thicken too thin purees.

I started both dd's on rice cereal mixed with breastmilk at 4 months. I started 1 jar food a few weeks later with my second dd because she was really into the food. Her mouth opens so wide and she just seems really happy to be eating. Right now she is 5 months and I do 1 Tbsp cereal with a half of number 1 jar fruit in the morning, and 1 Tbsp cereal and 1 jar veggie at dinner. Just started the twice a day thing. I just make sure that she is nursing the same amount of time and frequency as before, because I want her to still take in the same amount of milk.

Both my boys were ready at 5 months and I started slowly with them - although they bith hatedthe rice ceral & oatmeal so we did puree fruit etc. fairly straight away (one at a time). If mckenzie shows interest at 5 months I'll start her then too... GL! :D

Since their gut may not be fully closed & ready for solids til 6 months, I decided to play it safe & wait til then. We didn't do any cereal either. Started with avocado & sweet pot's. GL! :)

4 months. The best is still BM, but the American Academy of Pediatrics also supports starting solids if your kiddo is ready.

Here is the recommended way to start to minimize the chance of an allergic reaction:

Week 1- Rice Cereal
Week 2- 1 veggie +RC
Week 3- Add 2nd veggie +RC
Week 4- Add 3rd Veggie + RC

The second month, do the same but with Fruits. Fruits have a tendency for more allergic responses, so you should not start them for a full month.

At 6 months of age, you can start protein if your baby is ready, but NOT before then.
