How much breastmilk/formula (bottle feeding) 10/11m?

Postby Nikkeh » Thu Mar 31, 2011 7:13 pm

We are at the end of our breastfeeding journey, and are now going to be supplementing bottles until he refuses me completely, at which time we'll be using strictly bottles of formula. I'm curious how much is a normal/average/correct amount for 10/11months? He eats a LOT of solids (table food), but they have increased significantly over the past 2 months I think due to me being pregnant...so there's a chance he might end up eating on the lower side of acceptable for formula. I just want to know what the minimum he needs is, and we'll try to increase from there if he lets us

My son has always taken 3.5-4ozs of bm in bottles. While apart during the day at that age he was drinking three four oz bottles in addition to nursing twice in the AM before I left for work, twice between when I got home from work and bed and a few times overnight. Between 12-13 months we cut back to two four oz bottles during the day and more or less the same nursing schedule the rest of the time.

My 11 month old is down to just 2 bottles (7-8oz) a day, she is formula fed and she gets one in the morning and one before bed. If we offer her a bottle during the day she will usually only drink an ounce or two so we just stopped offering. I know she gets less than the recommended amount of formula but I am not at all worried about it. She loves to eat and seems to be growing well. Hope that helps and try not to stress it

Keep in mind that formula is COMPLETELY different from bm. BM has higher calorie content, so bfd babies always eat fewer ounces than ff.

I honestly have no idea since I am BF - but his desire to BF has gone down considerably over the past months. He only BF once in the AM and once in the PM.

We have started giving him cows milk with meals, and he loves that.

My 9 month old has shown almost no interest in formula this past week. She is in the 95% for height and weight and is eating a lot of table food/fruits and veggies. I offer the bottle, but she doesn't seem interested, not even in a sippy. She drinks a 6oz bottle in the am, maybe an ounce or two throughout the day and maybe 6oz before she goes to bed.

So glad I found this. They keep telling me DS needs 25-30+ oz a day and he just won't drink that much, we're lucky to get 20+...

I have slowly been learning so long as he is growing/happy not to stress about the "guidelines" but its hard.

My DD drinks way less than the 24 oz guideline- but she loves table
food and is 75 th percentile for height and weight so we're just going by her cues.
