Dr says our sons soft spot is to large ?

Postby dansgirl » Thu May 26, 2011 2:48 pm

Our son Cameron is 4 months old. He had his needles and check up today. My Dr is concerned about the size of his soft spot (being to big) and says he has been worried about it since his last apt but wanted to leave it and see what happens. Now he is referring him to a peadiatrician for a second opinion. I am really worried and hope we get the referral soon and get some answers. He would not really say what could be wrong just that these appointments are to catch things early and that hopefully it will turn out to be nothing. He did say he is glad that it is not bulging. Camerons head is 17.5 inches at just over 4 months. I would appreciate any advice or experience any of you have dealing with this ...thanks :)

My little man's soft spot was gigantic and is just now starting to close up at 15 months 8O All of my friends' LOs have been closed since 8ish months. If he is developing normally I wouldn't think you have anything to worry about. My son was evaluated monthly for 4 months starting at 4 months and was scoring above average on their tests. The doctors told me that he had all kinds of very serious chronic conditions and all of their tests have come back negative...my advice is to just take what they say with a grain of salt and don't let them keep you from enjoying your beautiful baby :hb:

DS1 had a huge soft spot. At his 9 month appointment the doc was like "should close by 12 months." Then at his 12 month appt said "oh it should close by 18 months" and when we went then and it still wasn't closed, he said if it wasn't closed by 24 months he'd refer us to a specialist. It did finally close around 23-24 and now there is just a little dip.

DS2 seems to be the same way - his soft spot is just as big as DS1's was. My mom told me that my soft spot didn't close until I was closer to 2 yrs old - so I'm guessing it's heredity
DS1 05.07.09 - born at 34w 4d
DS2 07.26.10 - born at 35w 2d
DS3 11.01.11 - born at 36w 5d
