Happy Spitter

Postby Velity » Sat May 28, 2011 7:59 pm

I have a "happy spitter"
It is disgusting and she spits almost everything she eats.
(we have worked with a specialist and tried everything and nothing has worked)
She has gotten MUCH better since birth, but any advice is more then welcome.
Also, is there an age where it finally seemed to stop?
She had huge issues gaining weight in the beginning, but now she does fine even with loosing her lunch.

I have no advice but just wanna say I know how you feel!! It's so messy!! :D My LO has allergies so she is on a hypoallergenic formula but it makes her spit up (happily) - but she never would on BM previously. I think it tends to get better when they start sitting up a lot more? And when they have some solid food in their tummy?

My two lived in bibs. For mine, it started slowing down big time around 12 months. They are now 15 months and hardly ever spit anylonger. There is an end...hang in there.

I have one that is a happy spitter. We changed to the AR formula and started solids, but nothing worked. FINALLY we saw an osteopathic doctor to do some physical treatment to loosen up the muscles to clam the nerve that causes it. She has gone weekly for 4 weeks and we are down to 1 or 2 spits a day from 20 or so...

funny, she has no problem keeping on weight! LOL birth weight for Kayla (twin with spitting)- 5lb 1oz Current weight- 17lbs!
Bella (non-spitting twin)- 5lb 8oz Now- 16lb...

go figure!

ours goes either way. she spat up quite happily this morning and didnt want feeding again and didnt seem to be in pain. there are times she has silent reflux also and arches her back and screams but this is rare most of the time she throws up will have some more and be on her way lol!

they grow out of it eventually. my son was 4 months and he was better. i try to keep her upright when feeding and for half an hour after it helps loads

Gillian was a huge baby at 11.1lbs, and had a horrible time in the beginning gaining weight. She went down to low 9 pounds.
We have to feed her baby milkshakes, ie Enfamil AR with an extra scoop of rice just to get something to stick.
We started on solids to, but since they are more liquid then her bottles we add rice to them to.
Now she is 17 pounds also which the doctors are happy about.
but this kid refuses to sit up!
She would rather roll around puking all over my carpets. :?

My doctor suggested some foods, even a pasta to soak up in her stomach.
I did have the specialist say once you start solids it will get worse before it gets better.
I just assume by 6 months it would have slowed up a lot by now.
