GORD and milk allergy again :(

Postby Hunnybunny22 » Sun Aug 07, 2011 2:29 am

both my children have GORD and milk protein allergy.
allergies run in my family and with me and the reflux seems to go hand in hand. we are having a tough time with sleeping and eating although she is gaining weight she wont feed unless she is asleep.
shes on infant gaviscon ranitidine and domperidone 3 times daily and the gaviscon is in every feed. she has an appointment with a pediatrician on the 22nd but i feel shes still bad.
anyone dealing with the same issues would be nice to see ideas on how to deal with this

HUGS to you!!! I SO feel your pain! Mckenzie has silent reflux and milk protein allergy. She is on Losec twice a day and we switched to Neocate formula (a true Godsend for us) when she was 4 months old. At 4 months she was quickly losing weight, refusing to feed awake, feeding only enough when asleep to keep hydrated, back arching, excessive wind & terrible pain, diorrehea (sp?) etc. It took a good month to adjust to Neocate and for her to realise she wouldn't be in pain from feeding anymore. She also had issues with taking a bottle at this stage, even though she had previously taken one of BM without issues. Life was a pure nightmare and I actually developed PND from the whole ordeal as the stress was just too much for me. She is now so happy, so easy and so content and turned 7months old today. She has 6 bottles a day (about5-6oz) & 2 serves of pear or apple with organic rices cereal. She goes for allergy testing in a few weeks to see if there are any other obvious allergies. Best thing I ever did was see a pedi that speacialised in allergies - the first pedi I saw was a moron and told me I just had a difficult baby  The other best thing was Neocate (as much as I am pro B'Fing - this saved her life quite literally!).
I really do understand what you are going through, KUP and pm me if you ever want to chat about it all! Hang in there :D

I know this is an old post, but did you ever see an improvement? It really depends on the type of formula you're using. Could your baby be allergic to other stuff as well?? My daughter was intolerant to milk for sure. I had to cut out ALL dairy from my diet. (bfing). It didn't help. I ended up cutting out gluten, soy, nuts, eggs. Still not better. We tried a corn based formula. She screamed bloody murder for HOURS on end. I cut corn from my diet. At 6 months, I gave her rice to try for the first time. Her reflux was SO bad. Apparently, she had issues with rice as well. Once I cut rice and black beans from my diet (as well as all the other stuff), her bloody stools stopped, her reflux improved (but didn't go away completely) It is SOOO tough when your child has food allergies. I think you mentioned one time that you used soy formula for your other child. It is VERY common for children to have soy and milk intolerances/allergies. If you're using soy, you may want to look into a soy issue as well. Either way, I hope your baby starts feeling better soon!! (Or is already feeling better!)

thanks so much for replying we used neocate for both children which is amino acid based. she is on medication aswell to combat the reflux and she is doing much better. she couldnt tolerate soy either which we knew would happen. we have recently tried her on soy yoghurt as my son could tolerate these so we are waiting to see a reaction. she is so much more comfortable now and a lot happier. thanks for posting :)
