What do you expect from them? If anything?

Honestly, I think that is the wrong question. I think it's better to be happy with anything that they might do, but not put any expectations on them.

I don't have any step-children, but I have a "step-mother".

I am a step mother of 18 and 20 year old girls. I don't expect anything. But rarely have they let an occasion go by without making an effort. It's a fine line. I don't know your situation, of course, but my stepdaughters have a mother. Just because I came along in their mid-teens shouldn't mean that I detract from the holiday meant to honor their mother. Which I understand so much clearer now that I have a child of my own!

My DSS is 11. I have known him since he was 7 and we got married last Sept. I did not mean to ask what to "expect" what I was trying to ask is more do the step children acknowledge the step mom. We have 50% custody and his mom is a big part. I just dont want to "expect" the same as he would do for his mom. BC I know I am not his mom. I am happy w/ what ever he does I just dont want him to feel pressured (I know he is only 11 so it would be DH's thing) to make it "equeal". Does that make sence?

Perfect sense. My relationship with my stepdaughters has had it's rocky parts. Basically, their mom is a POS, and they have her influence. Not to be a downer, but it's a long road you have in front of you. I was ecstatic when my youngest step daughter moved out. May be wrong, but it's honest. And most bio-moms of teenagers would agree. We had them full time from the moment we moved in together. There mother does jack for them, and is $7000 behind in child support. I am the one that pays the bills, fills out the FASFA forms, heck, even introduced them to their religion. And I am never acknowledged. Their mom is. Sucks, but it's the way the life of a stepmother is.

Soooo... Don't expect anything.
