Pillows

Postby babyhelstrup » Wed Aug 10, 2011 8:46 pm

Every few nights my LO will point to the rocking chair at bed time. I thought that she wanted more "milk" so I said no. To night I realized she wanted the pillow on the chair. So I gave it to her. And she is sleeping on it. I am a little worried that she will smoother herself if she rolls off it and between the pillow and the sides....

Is 18m too young for pillows?
Is there a good ergo pillow that she should use?
Is a larger (end to end) pillow better or a smaller one?
Should it be more firm or softer?

DS has a small pillow in his crib that came with the bedding. He'll use it sometimes but for a few months now he just takes a blanket, balls it up and uses that for a pillow. I've been thinking of getting him a larger one, not too large of course, lightweight and flat.

we moved DS1 into a toddler bed when he was 18 months. We put just a regular standard pillow in there. He never slept on it though, until he was about 20 or so months.

In the beginning he would sleep with his feet on it, or sideways in the bed.

We started we a travel size pillow around 18 months and switched to a full size pillow when we converted the crib to a toddler bed in April. She will be 3 in Sept

DD shares my pillow in the bed. She has since she was about 12-14 months I think. She tends to sleep on her back and she doesn't move much during the night.

DD is going on 16 months and has been using a pillow for a couple months already. Her grandma got her a pillow pet (full-size) for her 1st birthday and it was love at first sight. She will not settle down in her crib without it. :? Luckily she only uses it to fall asleep, though. She moves around a lot in her sleep so she doesn't use it most of the night.

I think smaller and flatter is better so I looked into buying her a toddler pillow but they were way too expensive... classic baby/toddler product marketing BS, IMO. All travel pillows I found had too much stuffing (hard on the neck & spine). A few weeks ago I stumbled upon a mini-sized pillow pet that is nice and flat and perfect.

Ya i was thinking of using a travel pillow. When I saw my chiropractor this morning he said that a thin pillow is best (i think about the same height as their shoulders). Something that keeps her head level. right now she only falls asleep on it but 1/2 her body is on it. She is such a flopper that i dont think she uses it like a real pillow.

I saw the mini pillow pets. I should go get one of those.

We have been using one since about 18 months too. I bought a standard flat pillow and it's in her crib. She sleeps on it:)
