Climbed out of crib

Postby babyhelstrup » Sat Oct 15, 2011 1:42 pm

My lovely 20m old climbed out of her crib. I really dont wan tot move her to a toddler bed because it will be so hard to get her to sleep. she flops like a fish and calls out for us.. She only did it 1 time and she was protesting her nap. fingers crossed she does not do it again.

If your toddler escaped when did they start doing it? Or when did you move them to a big kid bed. anyone use the "tent'' on the top of the crib to keep them in???

Mine started climbing out at 19 months. One did it and the other followed....so we switched both of them to their toddler beds and it was a piece of cake. I was going to try the tent but heard some were recalled b/c of strangulation so decided against it and just took the plunge.

I didn't think the girls would do good when I switched b/c they usually protested sleeping but they did great, the first night they fell asleep on the floor and then they were fine after that.

My Stella started a few weeks ago- 14 months!! Just switched her and her twin brother to toddler beds last night. They stayed in their beds all night and during their first nap today- they did get up and refuse their second nap but went right to sleep in their beds tonight. So far, so good. We also thought about the tent but I think that would have pissed her off and we were planning on switching to toddler beds in a few months anyway- so we bit the bullet! Good luck!

Yeah. You need to do the toddler bed hon. She could really hurt herself if she fell :(

We just switched Wes to his toddler bed (took front of crib off and put guard rail on). He has been a happy clam. He is THE WORST sleeper. We have had some serious sleep issues that have been resolved, but he has been waking up once a night and wanting us.

Anyways, long story short. We switched him, and he CAN get out, but he won't. He gets up and comes to our room in the morning but as for naps, if he is in bed, he stands up and cries then goes right to sleep. Just like in his crib.

Ds climbed out @ 18 mos & I did immediately convert his crib to a toddler bed. He actually started sleeping BETTER! Before, he was a fitful sleeper & woke several times at night. Once he was in a toddler bed, we heard from him less in the night & he started sleeping a little later. We really stressed to him that he HAD to stay IN bed....even put him in for the 1st few months, rather than letting him climb in, to stress that we put him in & got him out. He was wonderful with that. (So wonderful that we had to totally re-train him at 3 to get out & leave his room without calling us to get him!!:))

Thanks for your replys. There is light when switching beds. She has not climbed out again. Maybe when she climed out it scared her enough that she is not trying. I have a video monitor so I watch her not till I know she is sleeping. If I see her starting to really try then I will switch her to a bed. Scary thought... Not sure how bedtimes will go.. Will cross that bed (lol) when we get there. Bc i know it is not only getting her to sleep in her bed and stay in it but also make sure that her room is safe. She likes to take stuff out of her drawers. Good times for mom .

I wont do the "tent" though... not worth risking.
