play kitchen for a boy

Does anyone think its not ok to buy a play kitchen for a boy. I think my 18 mo old ds would love a play kitchen. My parents are like thats for girls. I disagree. Alot of the play kitchens out now are neutral colors, not pink. And why cant a little boy get a play kitchen, when they grow up they will be using the real kitchen. I have been trying to decide on a large gift for christmas and I'm leaning toward the kitchen. What are everyone's thoughts on this?

Go for it! DS loves to play in the kitchen with us. he grabs spoons and cups and stirs and tastes just like Poppa does.

Any DIL would feel blessed if you raised your son to be able to cook. Get him the toy kitchen.

He would probably love it... just don't get the pink one if it's a concern. My 3 yo nephew has one and loves it still. My FIL was against it, because "kitchens are for girls". However, my DH spent most of his bachelorhood eating gas station hotdogs and buritos for dinner :puke: , so that's what that type of thinking does to your son in the future.

We got one for my son when he was one and he's still playing with it. All of my friends with sons have a play kitchen too. I think it's almost like a little kid staple - one of the best toys for kids!

My DS has one. I'll admit he doesnt use it though. Haha nothing wrong with a toy kitchen. I mean, a ton of chefs are male and had to start somewhere!!

I am one of 3 girls in my family and my brother grew up surrounded by girl toys. He would walk around with dolls and use our make-believe vanity set, etc but grew up to be VERY boy. He's your typical 19 yr old college guy now! Don't worry about it. In fact I might be buying my 14 month old nephew who lives with us a doll because he wants my 19 month daughters!

We made our son one ... lay-k.html

and he loooovvveeessss it. Rouge family members have their comments but, eh, the nice thing about raising your own kid is we get to ruin him how ever we like :) if that means he pretends to cook, so be it.

There are tons of tutorials online as to how to make your own, and you can get stainless steel utensils, and so many fun things for guys.

I got my twin boys a toy kitchen and they really like it. I think its a Step 2 and its not girly at all, very neutral. My DH had the same reaction, kitchens are for girls but that's just silly. Get what you think your son will enjoy playing with.

Thanks everyone. I think its ok and I did my research and found a step 2 one that is neutral colors that looks really fun. I will be ordering it for my ds for christmas, I am also going to get the play grill I seen. My dh doesnt have any problems with it, just my parents. But like someone else posted, ds is our child, we will do what we think is right. I think he will love it cause he loves playing with kitchen stuff when Im in the kitchen cooking.

we have this one for my son, I think its made more neutral/boyish since it has the attached grill. I just took the frilly liners out of the baskets that comes with it. ... e-kitchen/

I say go for it!

I bought one for my ds last Christmas and he absolutely loves it! As I was walking out the store with it (I purchased it at Wal-Mart) the greeter (an older male) asked me if it was for my ds, whom was with me. I told him yes and he proceeded to ask me if I knew kitchens were for little girls. Uhm...if my son wants a kitchen, I will buy him a kitchen. He seriously needs to get over gender stereotypes.

I do not really care about the whole gender role thing and my boys like to cook so I would buy them whatever kitchen I found but I will say that we got this one last year at Buy Buy baby for 1/2 off and all three of my kiddos love it! ... pid=882100

I apologize for bumping this old topic, but I have done quite a bit of research on this, so I want to share my experience.
I thought I'd throw a few more cents into the discussion.

My daughter was born on 4/21/14 and got her first kitchen for Christmas from Amazon when she was 20 months old. It is the only toy that she plays with every day
My mom bought her the mini kitchen from Magic Cabin which we sold and upgraded to a bigger kitchen this year.
At 3.5 she still plays with it every morning. She makes her brother breakfast
has some great food items and dishes. Every occasion she has got something small for her kitchen. She also made 2 aprons and a potholder to use...
