WHEN DID YOU...???

Postby BelleBailey » Fri Apr 20, 2007 5:53 pm

How soon did you start thinking of nursery ideas? When did you actually start buying for and decorating the nursery? My grandmother is a bit old-fashioned (as most grandmothers are) and she suggested that I should at least wait until after my first trimester...I guess along with telling people about a pregnancy in the first trimester, it was also taboo (sort of like a jinx) to buy items for baby and decorate before the first trimester ended. Have any of you heard this before? I don't agree with this but I was just trying to get a general concensus. I'm excited to start but I don't want to start too soon and then have it completed all early and not have anything to do or look forward to as far as buying and decorating later in the pregnancy, you know? Please share thoughts. Thanks so much.

I'm a bit superstitious that way too, I don't buy anything for the baby until the 1st tri has passed (eg. clothes, nursery items).

I would wait until you get past your first trimester. Once you get to 12 weeks, you will feel more certain that everything is going to be okay. It's not a supersticious thing, but it would be very hard to deal with having all the baby stuff if anything were to happen.

I didn't start the room until about 20 weeks. I really didn't buy anything else until after my showers.

I say hold out for a few more weeks just to be sure. :D

I waited until after the first trimester to buy anything but it doesn't hurt to look earlier than that. You can still have it all planned out in your head then go mad buying things once you're 'safe'!
Happy planning :D

I waited until we found out the sex of the baby. But I started picking things out online and saving it in my favorites for both sexes before then. Window shopping helps pass the time. :D

We also waited until we knew baby's gender..... but I did lots of window shopping and 'planning' before that!

I agree with Laura it would be so upsetting to have all that baby stuff and heaven forbid something were to happen. I waited until mid way thru my second trimester and we jsut finished getting stuff this week.

my first pregnancy we started to buy stuff when we found out. Then I had a M/C. To be honest, it was SO hard to look at the things I had purchased. I told DH to get them out of my sight, and luckily he took it as "save them, but not where I can see them". Even now, I feel like I might be Jinxing my baby I am pregnant with now (20 weeks along now). We had gotten a crib and bassinet. I am still going to use them, but there are days when I wonder... you know?

lol this time we waited till 10 weeks along and only bought small stuff... then at 12 or 13 weeks bought a highchair......

Thank you all for your advice & opinions. I really appreciate them. I think I will follow your suggestions and continue doing what I've been doing...window shopping, looking through magazines/books, getting ideas & saving stuff to my favorites.

We started on Gabrielle's room in January, so I was about 24 weeks. We didn't finish it until after the shower, so that was mid - March. Now, it's all ready to go. . . and I wish I still had more to do! :wait:
