Fantasy theme help

Postby Lisa79 » Mon Aug 30, 2010 9:05 am

I plan on doing a fantasy themed nursery. Unisex
BUT I'm having a really difficult time finding anything for it.

I found a really cute dragon plushie pattern that I plan on making
http://www.mariskavos.nl/fluffels/shop/diy/dragon.htm

And I've bought 2 cute little decorations for the room. Yes, it's a turtle shell from the Super Mario Bros game :P lol I thought it was cute and would go well with the overall theme.

Mushroom lit up. There were more colors that I'd like to get.

The whole theme of the room will be fantasy related. I plan on painting all of the walls in a big mural. Fantasy forest w/ little creatures and big fat polka dotted mushrooms.
And rolling green hills with a cute castle in the background.
I also want the baby blanket to have a castle on it as well.

You get the idea :D
But as I said, I haven't really found much of anything. Any help would be great.

Don't forget butterflies and dragonflies (dragonflies would probably be more unisex) http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001CS7ZVG/ref=asc_df_B001CS7ZVG1231150/?tag=prontocom92535-20&creative=394997&creativeASIN=B001CS7ZVG&linkCode=asn

Depending on how "fantasy" you want to get you can add little elves, etc. here and there.

You can also add fireflies for the lighting effect of them (you can buy them or DIY by doing a google search for instructions): http://www.fireflymagic.com/fireflies/index.html If you add some fake foliage around your trees and/or bushes you'll get an interesting 3D effect and you can intersperse the fireflies within it.

Also gauzy fabrics always give a hint of fantasy (do things like use fake vines as curtain tie-backs to bring in the forest theme). You might be able to get some good ideas from movies like A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Will love to see pictures when you finish and decide what to do!

Thanks so much for the ideas!

*nodnod* I love butterflies and dragonflies and want to incorperate those as well. Maybe get some wire wings (like the ones you wear for halloween but smaller if I can find some) and put those on the walls and such.
And very cool idea w/ the fireflies. Not sure I'd be able to do it myself, but I'll certainly look in to it! hehe

If I can't find much high fantasy stuff, I'll go for a more subtle approach. At least with the actual decor :D

I did find a mobile that I really liked that I think would go well with the theme.

Still looking though. Have some time to plan this out :D
