Congrats Faithful! I don't know why I didn't notice you on here before - I see that you did PGD! You're the only person I've met on here that's done it. We were seriously considering it, since we're at a very high risk for a certain genetic disorder. I'm currently waiting for the results of my CVS test to know whether this is a good pregnancy or not. If it's not, then we'll be doing PGD about 5 months later.

Congrats again on your twin pregnancy!

sorry to butt in..and if you dont want to answer this that is fine:) astrila I mean...:)

I always though PGD was selecting certain embryos that do not have the genetic problem before implantation? .. how do you do it later on in pregnancy.(you say in 5 months?) .or do you mean you will not continue with pregnancy if they have the genetic problem? I'm just wondering all this due to my genetic issue as well so just trying to find out more about what happens..

I updated with u/s from the specialist. Their machine was so much better than the RE's. The tech showed me the profiles, you could see their nose and mouth. She noted 2 hands and 2 feet for both babies and showed me the umbilical cord as well. I almost "stole" the pics they were so clear. Happy to have these though. At the end I mentioned how I wish I could record the :hb: and she said if I brought a tape they would record it each time for me, so maybe I'll have an actual video next time :D

Thank you Amanda

Astrila, I hope everything turns out well with your CVS test. Funny about the PGD, the specialist today was still talking about testing because it's not 100%. Wonder what my RE will say to that! I did a blood finger prick test today and will be doing the NF test in 2 weeks. I'm confident they are fine, but the specialist offered and I accepted this time.

Kaw-you are correct that PGD can only be done on embryos before implantation.

Kaw - yes. Our genetic disorder is fatal for boys - it's 100% certain that they would die before 2 years old if they have it, so we would be terminating the pregnancy in the event of a positive result. Then I would want to wait 5 months I decided for my body to recuperate, then do PGD because I don't want to risk having to terminate again so late in the pregnancy.

Faith - I hope your test turns out okay! We had decided that we wouldn't do testing if we did PGD because if we got a bad result, then we wouldn't know which test to believe - the PGD test or the prenatal test! So we wouldn't terminate in that case, it would just make us worry. I can totally understand double checking though! If it doesn't turn out okay for some reason, I would really recommend NOT doing the CVS test to check - that test is VERY un-fun, believe me, and they say the risk of miscarriage is only about 1%, but after feeling all those feelings during and after it, I definitely wouldn't want to risk it if you don't have to. You wouldn't know which one to believe anyway.

I'm so glad your PGD/IVF is working out so great so far! And by the way, are you sure about the no girl-girl, because you never know, only one might have implanted and split! ;) Identical twins that split very early on would have separate placentas. I agree, it's unlikely though...
