quad screen

Postby skye » Fri Apr 10, 2009 1:52 pm

So I am 15 weeks and just got the call from the doc about my screen test. Apparently it showed a risk for trisomy 18. I really wasn't expecting this. They want to get me in for an ultrasound next week. I'm sure this has been discussed numerous times, but has anyone else had a risk for trisomy 18? My husband is at sea right now and I so wish he could be here! Hopefully he will be home and able to come next week. As many probably have said- I'm just freaking out a bit.

Thanks

Hi.

I know this is easier said than done, but Quad Screen is very known to have a high percentage of FALSE POSITIVE. Try to relax and wait for your Level II scan (it should be Level II). Did they tell you what's your risk ratio???

That is what the gal who called said- that she sees more false positives than not. She did not give me the ratio though. I didn't know about that until I started reading posts here. Thank you...

Ok, so they called me on Friday with the results of the quad screen positive risk for trisomy 18. So of course I waited freaking out all weekend. They said they would call me to schedule a level II ultrasound. Well, my husband will be in 1 day this week due to navy ship schedule, so I called them this morning to see if I could just get in on that day. She came back and told me that they can't see me until sometime between my 16th and 19 week, which I would have been seen at the 18 week anyway! So now I have to wait for them to call me and I can't even get in for a week and a half at the earliest due to their schedule! So now I am just mad, freaking out, and a bit scared again. I was doing so good! The more I read about these tests, the more I see that everything seems to turn out fine most of the time, but there is that one chance. I asked her about my ratios but she said she didn't have that information yet. Anyway, I guess I just needed to vent a bit. Thanks.

I had my results come back with the risk for down syndrom. I went for the level 2 and everything was fine and I now have an almost 11 months PREFECT son!
