Can anyone help me? UPDATE at bottom :)

Postby MissyLyn » Mon Jul 19, 2010 8:35 am

I don't want to google this and read horror stories I'm hoping someone here might have heard of this and can help me...

I went for my first U/S today, I am 19w3d, baby is measuring right on, but the heartrate went from 150s and dropped tot he 50's a couple times during the u/s. They are sending me to a specialist who wil do an echo on the baby. I was in too much shock to ask many questions so that is about all I know. has anyone heard of this? What might be wrong? Can someone please help? Don't sugar coat, I just need to know the possiblilties. Thanks :)

I don't have any advice or experience of this, but just wanted to give you some big hugs! How scary to have this happen.

Did they mention anything else being wrong? I would think the problem would be more concerning if you had too little fluid, or something else that could be compromising the cord and hence blood flow from the placenta.

But just remember short decels can be caused by something as simple as baby's movements squishing the cord, and then moving away.

Try not to worry until you know more about the problem, hopefully they give you some answers quickly

:hugs:

Thanks so much, Everything else looked fine, I'm 19 weeks so I didn't think that the baby could compress the cord? I didn't think it was big enough. I did consider a true knot in the cord though Which scares the crap out of me. DS had a true knot in his cord and we found out at birth 8O But a knot is so dangerous... I wish I knew someone that had this issue and could offer me just some thoughts. Thank you so much for letting me know you care, it means the world to me right now. I feel so horrible right now, Normally I feel so bonded to the baby after seeing it on the u/s now I don't want to get attached, I'm so afraid I'm going to lose this baby....

I'm sorry I can't be of more help. Why don't you ring your OB and talk to them again about it, now that you have had more time to get over the initial shock. Write down a list of questions for them, so you don't forget anything in the heat of the moment.

I am so sorry, but I agree with PP, call your OB and discuss with him, it may not be as serious as you are imagining. Just to share my experience with a different condition and what I went through....

I had monthly US to check my cervical length with my 3rd son due to my first DD being a preemie. At my 28 week US all of the sudden doctor mentions baby has ventriculomegaly, which could mean severe retardation, a severe genetic disorder, fetal death etc etc. I freaked, my 5 year old was with me though so I had to hold it in. Called DH on way home from appt, he googled and found the same scary news. Got to work, my Mom picked up my DD and I lost it sobbing in a co-workers office for around an hour. Called OB later and he said 80-90% of the time this finding is nothing, simply enlarged ventricles that do not grow and chances are baby is fine, he was really kind and while he did not promise 100% all was all right, he made me feel much, much better and was not as pessimistic and the perinatologist. I did more research on my own and found out in the absence of other soft markers, this condition is usually nothing. Had an US a month later as follow up, ventricles were stable in size, no follow up, baby was fine. He is now 1 1/2 and perfect.

So as scared as you are I do suggest finding out more! Hugs!

when is your echo? really there are so many reasons, I would imagine they wouldn't be able to tell you except that it could be nothing up to it could be something that would need surgery etc. A specialist doing an echo will look at the heart and see if there are anything abnormal with the heart. They are trained specifically to identify problems, your ob can't really dx things like that, they see a wide range of things but that isn't their specialty, they take care of mom. Wishing you the best. I know it is hard waiting for that apt. You do get to sit with a dr though and get the results that day.

Ok so I had the Echo done, the babys heart looks totally normal. However they continued to see decels so she wants to see me back on the 9th of sept. I also talked my N/M and she is setting up a growth scan at 30 weeks. I hope everything goes well :)
