Hi ladies! I just had a question for you. When you were told your baby's kidneys were enlarged, did you get a measurement? I was told my baby's kidneys were enlarged and she also has an echogenic focci on the heart so I've been kinda freaking out. When I talked to my doctor today, he said the kidneys were measuring at 3 mm. He said technically normal is 1-4, and anything over 4 is considered an abnormality. I'm kind of confused about why he even got me so worked up over the kidneys being enlarged when they're really not? Did any of you have babies with kidneys technically in the normal range but told they were enlarged?

No, if your baby's kidneys are measuring at 3mm, that is considered normal range. My DD measurement was 21mm. I would say try to relax because things are looking good!. Good luck and KUP :D

victoria- My little girls kidney measured 14.9 mm at the first u/s they did. I know it is hard, but try not to worry too much. I am sure your baby will be fine.

Well, ladies, I am scheduled to be at the hospital at 8 am for induction. I probably won't be on here again after tonight until I get home. I will let everyone know how she is doing and what they are saying about her kidney as soon as I can. Thank you to everyone for your prayers!

Thank you ladies. The reason I'm curious is because I know that one soft marker doesn't usually mean a whole lot, but once you have 2 or more it increases your odds by a lot. So I don't know whether to include the kidneys as a soft marker or not, and the doctor said he didn't know whether to count it or not either since it was on the high side of normal. I'm trying not to worry but that's next to impossible for me. ;)

Abgil, you probably have a baby by now!!!! Congratulations!

I am sorry that I haven't kept you guys updated lately. Hannah had a renogram done at the end of December, and her right kidney is blocked somewhere in the ureter. She is going to have to have surgery within the next few months. :(
The doctor said that if we wait, she could have a serious UTI that could completely deteriorate the kidney and she will lose it. We are waiting to hear from the urologist to see when the surgery is scheduled. I hate that my baby is going to have to go through this. I feel so helpless.

I just read through all 16 pages of these posting- THANK YOU! This was VERY helpful and reassuring!!! I don't know if any of you are on here anymore because it looks like the posts were from 2011 :) But, if you are I just wanted to thank you.

My baby girl's kidneys are measuring 8mm at 22weeks. They were 5 and 7 and 18.5 weeks. I had to go see a specialist yesterday and he said that the amniotic fluid was good so the baby is peeing. However, there is a little bit of blockage. The blockage isn't all the way blocked which he said is really good because if there was he would have had to do surgery while she's in my belly :( He doesn't think that this will be a case where she will outgrow this on her own BUT I'm hopeful she will. The specialist also told me that there is not a link to down syndrome from this- but it still scares the living hell out of me. I read so much on the internet that said there was a very weak link to down syndrome but I'm choosing to trust the specialist. I also asked him if 8mm was something to worry about. He said that the number didn't really matter that much, it is much more important that it wasn't completely blocked. Please pray for my little girl :)

Just wanted to leave an update! My daughter was born completely healthy last week. She does not have Down syndrome. We are doing a follow up ultrasound with her kidneys next week but I assume they are fine now- she pees all the time.
