Hi!. I wanted to update that I had my little baby girl on Jan 14th. After delivery she had an ultrasound of the kidneys which ended up being NORMAL!!. They just noted that the lft kidney is 1cm smaller but completely functional. No follow up with urologist needed. We are in love with our baby. May God bless our baby and your little ones as well.

I hope you don't mind my posting here.
We just found out that our LO has no right kidney at all.
The left is slightly enlarged, but they say they WANT to see that as it is doing a bit of extra work for there being no right one.
Anyways, of course it was not the best news to get but we are staying optomistic and know that, it could be way worse.

Has anyone else had a babe, or heard of a babe that was born with only 1 kidney??

I have heard of several little ones that were born with one kidney, and all of them have done very well. If you look back at this thread, you will see that one of the babies here had a kidney removed early on, and he is doing terrific. Best of luck to you and your baby! I imagine things will be just fine - people do seem to do very well with one kidney.

Hi.. I found the thread...I'm off to go read!

I'm 20 weeks and my anatomy scan showed 8mm of fluid in both kidneys.
So, I am going to soak up as much info as I can.

Things are looking good. They said to come back in 5 weeks!

I had a level 2 u/s done at 18 weeks and was told then that my baby has pyelectasis. The right kidney was measuring at 14.9 mm and the left kidney was at 4.9 mm. I recently had another u/s to check on the kidneys again, and there is no change in the size. My doctor feels that this will resolve on its own, and he told me that he is not worried about it. He says it is "just something that he has to keep an eye on". I will have another u/s when I am about 30 weeks to check on them again. It is so hard not to worry about, especially with the right kidney being noticeably large.

I just wanted to say hi to everyone, and I am so glad I found this thread. I haven't read all of the posts yet, but I am hoping that it will reassure me that my baby is going to be fine.

Abgil_ my daughter had severe dilation of the LT kidney (21mm) and at the end of the pregnancy, it resolved by itself!. Even the doctor couldnt believe it. Try to relax (is easy to say!). Ill be praying for you and your baby

hello ladies...

just putting up an update... I had another follow up u/s, today at 35 weeks pg... no change since 30 weeks. But I am still choosing not to worry.. He said since there still in fluid in the left kidney that he will need to be checked, after he has has time to hydrate after birth.. he said give about three days.. and then take him to the doc.

canadianmama! congrats on the baby.. she is beautiful!!! and also I want to tell you that my great aunt lived to be 81 years old...we found out a week before she passed that she was born with only one kidney...

abgil.. I know how you feel.. things will be ok! this really is not the worst thing! good luck and I look forward to seeing your updates!!

lys- Thank you for the prayers! That means a lot. Knowing that your daughter's resolved on its own gives me hope too. I am scheduled for my u/s on August 19th, so I will update everyone then.

starlette- I hope everything is ok with your baby. What scared me more than anything was the doctor that did my level 2 u/s (NOT my regular OB who is WONDERFUL!) told me that my baby would be sick all the time, and even suggested that I terminate the pregnancy! I really haven't read anything that would give me any indication that it will be that bad. My regular OB was pretty upset with that guy when he found out what he told me.
