yeah that does not sound good!! My tech at the first u/s said let me go and get the doctor. because this could be a chromosomal problem!! 8O that is what got me going in the first place!!

so I am due in two weeks.. I really hope things are well with my baby.. and I will update the thread then!

I am back from my doctor's office, and I didn't get the news I was hoping for. My baby's right kidney is enlarged more than it was a month ago. He wants me to have another Level 2 u/s. He said that he still feels like she will come out fine. He wants to do a more detailed u/s so they can get a better idea of what is going on and prepare for her delivery (if she will need a specialist after birth). He said that my amniotic fluid is ok, so he doesn't think the kidney is completely blocked.

I was so hoping that it would have cleared up by this u/s. I am so disappointed, but I am trying to not worry. I go for the level 2 on September 7th.

Well, not the news we wanted to hear. But I have to tell you that my DD kidney completely cleared at my 35 weeks U/S, there is still hope :P
You have good levels of amniotic fluid, so that is good news. Stay positive, miracles happen when you least expect it.

update.. I had my baby boy last thurs. right on my due date.
he weighed 6lbs 13oz.

the hospital did an u/s on his kidneys and found no need for immediate antibiotics, even though there were 4mm of fluid in the left kidney. Our pedi said we will do another u/s when he is six months.

abgil... chin up! things will be ok

Congrats starlette! I am so glad to hear that things are going well for you and your baby.

Thanks for the encouragement. I am ready for next week to find out what the Level 2 u/s shows, but I know there is still a chance that when she is born her kidney will be just fine.

I had the level 2 u/s today, and it did not go good. Her kidney is now measuring almost 5 cm and the amniotic fluid is low. The doctor wants me to rest 75% of the day, and drink lots of fluid. I have to go in for an ultrasound and fetal heart monitoring every week until she comes. The specialist said that we will take the pregnancy week by week from here on out, and I will have to deliver in another hospital with another ob in a city 2 hours away from my home so that she can be seen immediately by specialists. He said that he hopes we don't have to deliver her next week. :( I am so scared and worried for her! We have no idea what is going to happen.

YAY! I got to come home today! My u/s showed the amniotic fluid measuring the same and the kidney is still the same. The fluid is at 6 something and the kidney is measuring at 4.99 cm. The NST scan went well, so we go back next week and do it all over again. My OB says that Hannah is healthy (besides the kidney), strong, and very active! We also got to see her practice her breathing, which was way cool! The U/S tech said that was a very good sign! I am still on 75% rest. Hopefully, we can wait until she is full term before we have to go to the hospital!

The tech told us that the kidney was the worst that she has seen in a long time. I am still praying for a miracle that it will get smaller!

Hi!! I havent checked in here for awhile, but I see that there has been some activity...
Abigil, I just wanted to let you know, that my son was born with severe damage to his right kidney, in fact it was not working at all... he had it removed at 5 months of age... we were devestated knowing that our babe would only have one kidney at first. He is a happy, healthy, beautiful 23 month old boy now, and the docs say that he should have a healthy life with just one kidney... In fact, the perinatologist that we worked with has only had one kidney his entire life!
It is such a worry when you know that something could be wrong with your baby, but I just wanted to give you some hope.
I hope that everything turns out well!!!

Abgil, I am so happy that your baby is looking so active. Please, dont lose hope, miracles happens. If in fact your LO is only going to have one good kidney, then praise the Lord for that. I will keep you in my T&P.

Thank you, ladies, for the words of encouragement and the prayers! It hurts me so much to think that my baby may have to go through surgery and/or pain of any kind, but I am truly thankful that it is not life threatening.

The U/S from today shows the kidney at 5.3 cm. They were not expecting a major change in it. However, we are thanking God for an answered prayer-- my amniotic fluid is measuring at 13 cm! It doubled in one week! They were very shocked about that, and they told us that was great news! They are now hopeful that I might be able to carry her for a few more weeks until she is full term!

In a week or two, they are setting us up a meeting with a specialist to let us know what we might be dealing with after she is born. I am still praying for a miracle that the kidney problem resolves itself!

Hi abigil! I am glad to hear that your amniotic fluid is measuring that good. I keep saying dont lose hope; my miracle took place at 35 weeks, who knows if your is waiting to happen! Stay positive, is good to meet with an expert in case, so you know what to expect. I will keep praying for your DD.

We had a good appointment yesterday! We met with a neonatologist yesterday, and she was a lot more optimistic than "Dr. Gloom" (the stupid high risk specialist that we have been talking to). She told us that they would do an u/s and maybe a dye test after Hannah is born to see how the kidney is working. She said that we would then go home! She won't have to have surgery immediately. She also told us that worst case scenario is on down the line she will lose her kidney, but she felt like Hannah wouldn't and that it would clear up on its own!! The way "Dr. Gloom" talked there was no chance of that happening now that it was so big! We are so happy! I cried tears of joy all day yesterday! My baby is going to get to come home, and she isn't going to have to have surgery right away!

I still have to deliver at the other hospital, so my regular OB will not get to deliver her. I hate that, because he has been so good to us through this pregnancy and the 2 miscarriages I had before this pregnancy. The good news is "Dr. Gloom" is not on call the day I am scheduled, so he won't either! :) I go in October 15th at 8 am to start induction.

Thanks to everyone who has been praying for my Hannah Beth! :D
