mlynn - Honestly my mother can say the most hurtful things. It is something I have been trying to get myself used to dealing with. I think there are people that just don't understand what it is like to have a special needs kid and they don't get that you love them just as much as they love their kid. My mom has said that she cries because DD isn't "perfect". She may not be "normal" but she sure as heck is perfect!

oh dear, apparently I wasn't done ranting.

Do you ladies have any support systems where you live?

Bremaura - I'm sorry your mother has that attitude about your daughter (who is so adorable by the way). I haven't spoken with my mother in over 4 years (for other reasons) but my husband and his family are very supportive.

My husband is my son's step-father but has been there since before he turned 2 (he hasn't seen his bio father since he was 1-1/2 thank goodness). My husband goes to all of the PPT meetings and neurologist appts and my MIL and FIL are the most wonderful two people I've ever met. They treat my son just like all of the other grandchildren and when my MIL's and FIL's mothers both past away last year they included my son in the list of great-grandchildren in the obituaries. My son can do no wrong with my MIL and she thinks everything he does is so wonderful. I'm so lucky to have them all in our lives.

How is your support system? I hope you have someone to lean on. Hopefully we'll all find some extra support here. Thanks again Mlynn for starting this topic.
