Integrated screen results

Postby smithc5892 » Tue Nov 11, 2008 7:31 pm

My doctor called today and said the results of my integrated screen showed that my baby is at an increased risk for spina bifida. She is sending me for a detailed ultrasound at a specialist's office. I am trying not to worry too much right now as we don't know anything for sure, but I would like to hear from anyone who has experienced this, regardless of the outcome. Thanks.

manynums has a DD who was born with spina bifida and clubfoot. She had surgery to close her spine and she's thriving now. You can see pics of her recently on the Bilateral Clubfoot thread in this section. My son didn't end up having spina bifida but did have clubfoot.

Those screening tests are notoriously inaccurate, I wouldn't worry about anything just yet. We had a scare with this pregnancy, came back 1:66 for Downs. Turned out to be an error in dating on the lab slip.
The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow, For children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow. So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep. I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.

I was going to refer you to manynums as well. She is extremely knowledgeable in this area. Good luck to you, and I hope everything works out!

I have a cousin with spina bifida. She is 15 now and it is not severe. She has had several surgeries over the years but leads a normal life. She had braces on her feet as a child.
My Mom also has a friend with it.She was not so bad off until now it her 60's.She was able to drive with special stuff set up for her.She always worked until recently.
Hope it turns out ok for you.

With my last pregnancy we tested elevated for Spina Bifida 1:3 and she did not have spina bifida.. There are alot of false positives and usually they can tell via ultrasound if a baby does indeed have it!

We didn't do the blood tests, but our ultrasound at 20 weeks showed a problem (enlarged ventricles in the baby's brain), which earned me an in-depth ultrasound at the high risk OB office. That second u/s showed Spina Bifida. Micah hasn't arrived yet, so I don't have any BTDT experience, but if you need to talk/ask questions/whatever, feel free to PM me.
