Quad screening results. (x-posted in June Due Dates)

Postby Kristabel* » Thu Jan 22, 2009 2:00 pm

I just got a call from my Dr's office, and at my last appt., they did the bloodwork for the quad screening. She said that someone my age (32) typically has a risk of 1:400+ of having a baby w/Down's. She said based on my bloodwork, the risk for me is 1:20. I immediately asked her what she recommended, and she said that she recommends a level II U/S as well as an amnio. They are having me to go to a women's hospital in Pittsburgh for the tests, most likely one day next week. The office should be calling me back within the hour with my appt. time.

This is certainly a shock, and something I never expected. But at the same time, I'm just praying and relying on God to give me the strength and grace to handle whatever may come our way. Has anyone had an elevation like this and it turn out not to be anything? I've read on here ppl having a risk of 1:100 or even 1:69, but never 1:20. I guess I'm now in the information gathering stage and just trying to prepare myself for whatever news we may receive.

This community here at TWW is so comforting and understanding. If you think of it, we'll certainly take any extra prayers you may be willing to say. We just want the baby to be as healthy as possible.

Thanks for listening.

hugs, mama. i know it's stressful being in the not knowing stages... fortunately there's a LOT of false positives on the AFP/quad screen, even at that risk level.

You are in my prayers and your little bean. There are a lot of False Positives with Quad Screen. Also, I know someone who is 40 yrs old that has a worse number than you 1:15 - she opted to do amnio and her baby girl was born perfect. This is just a risk factor - pls try to remember that this is just an screening test not a diagnostic test.

I opted for amnio with my daughter because I was 39 at that time (she was born Nov. 26, 2007) my AFP/Quad screen was bad too with her (1:200) mainly because of my age.

Now I am pregnant again and I am doing amnio when I can just so I am prepared for everything.

Hugs
