On a side note, this is NOT a dieting group AT ALL. It is important to gain a healthy amount of weight during pregnancy. As for me, I find that pregnancy is a "grace" period to eat whatever I want and it is the one time that I can indulge a little and not feel guilty about it. I do however feel that if I'm going to do so, I want to workout b/c I am going to have to loose this weight once the baby comes and I do not want to make it harder on myself than I have to do it. :)

Oh, yay! I'd love to join! I'm a runner--marathoner, actually, and I definitely miss being able to get out there for long runs! I've been doing a lot of walk/running (30-90 minutes per day, 4-5 days per week) and light, repetitive lifting (2 days per week). I also throw in the occasional yoga class, though sadly those don't fit into my schedule as well as I'd like!

One of my goals now that running has become more difficult is to get started on a swimming program. I hate swimming and I don't float, but I want to get a good cardio workout without getting too hot or too much impact. Does anyone have any ideas for how to get started?

Thanks for starting this group!

I'd like to join! I was running and doing strength training before getting pregnant. My goals now are to get to the gym 2-3x a week and walk for 35-45 min on the treadmill OR walk outside. Also, to fit in at least one session of my prenatal yoga DVD a week.

So far, I just walked after dinner for about 30 min. I have made it to the gym a few times since getting over m/s too!

I am all about just being healthy and strong, I did it with my first too and I never had back pain with him at all. I attribute some of it to keeping my core strong. :)

Wow! You guys sound like your doing even more than I am! I would love to get into something else. Maybe pre-natal yoga would be a good thing (especially for the delivery). I am a certified yoga instructor, but have given it up b/c I was running so much and lost the time for it.

KJ511--I ran a 10K the day after I got my BFP, but it had about 15 hills in it and I ended up hurting my knee pretty bad. I still ran for 2 weeks afterward, but around 6 weeks, my knee just hurt too bad and I knew I needed to stop to let it get better. I haven't had any knee pain now for about 2-3 weeks now, but am too afraid to pick the running up again since I stopped it for so long already this pregnancy, so I've been walking. As far as swimming goes, that would be awesome if you could find a pool big enough. I had a lap pool at my last community that I lived in, but we've moved since then and a lap pool is just too far away. I swear though that doing a swim close to 38 weeks threw me into labor and I had my son at 38w2d.

Hope4two- yay for getting over the m/s. I was lucky enough not to really have hardly any (only a little nausea early on) this pregnancy, so I was able to keep up the walking a lot. I also had a formal that I had to go to that I was going to see a ton of my college friends from 10 years ago and I was trying not to gain that much weight before I saw them. I gained 10 pounds with my son first trimester and 8.5 with this one (so much for all the walking--lol).

Does the below look okay for your goals?
hope4two- goal is gym 2-3/wk and 1 walk and 1 yoga
KJ511- walk/running 4-5 days a week, lifting 2days week

I'd LOVE to join! I was a huge gym rat before pregnancy and for being 33+ weeks pregnant I'm still doing pretty good. My workouts aren't nearly as intense or enjoyable as they were pre-pregnancy, but something's better than nothing. I was into heavy cardio and strength training before pregnancy and can't wait to get back to 100%. In the meantime, I'm still at the gym 4-5 a week dpomg cardio, but mainly doing the elliptical (which I normally hate) and stairstepper, but adding in bike and incline walking on the treadmill when I'm having a "eh" day.

I have had such a smooth pregnancy and I honestly think staying active was part of it. I'm gaining weight exactly as I should, but the weight is all in the belly, my breathing is good, and my energy levels are high. I'm so glad I've gone through my pregnancy this way and I'm so happy to find other mamas that are as well.

Not going to lie though, I cannot wait to get back into the kind of shape I was in pre-pregnancy. I feel like my arms just aren't what they used to be, but I know staying active now will allow me to get back to where I need to be post-baby!

Briana- that is awesome that you have done so well this pregnancy. I loved the eliptical with my son as I got later in pregnancy. I may have to join a gym for the summer b/c it is going to get too hot to go walking outside (live in FL). I bet you look cute as a button at the gym.

Are you having any Braxton Hicks? I sort of feel like all of my walking and working out (even though I did NOT over due it) contributed to my going into labor at 38w2d. I started having Braxton Hicks as early as 25 weeks. I could be wrong though. It will be interesting to see how everyone else's body handles it!

Kelli- I was going to tell you that the eliptical is fantastic for pregnancy b/c it is not much impact. I forgot about that until Briana mentioned it.

Hey ladies. This post caught my eye. I'm a Spin instructor & am still teaching away. :) I am determined to keep teaching till my belly gets in the way. My heart rate gets too high sometimes but it doesn't stay there for long. I worry about it sometimes but I feel ok while I'm doing it & my body is used to it bc I did it before the pg. I also teach Zumba but I stopped that bc the jumping around didn't feel ok so I still go to Zumba as a participant but take all the jumping out.

I've gained some weight but am hoping that stayin active will allow me to slip right back into it full on & possibly make labor easier to bear. FX.

I'm actually not having any BH, so as of now, things seem to be progressing normally. I think I've passed the "cuteness" stage though of being cute and working out. LOL!

Pure - I'm so jealous you're a spin instructor! I'm actually thinking about getting certified and doing that on the weekends post pregnancy. My OB asked me to stop spinning when I got pregnant. I knew I didn't need to, but my DH is a super worry wort, so he asked if I would stop too. I miss it terribly. I can't wait to clip back in this summer! :D

Hi Ladies.....I just LOVE seeing so many fit Mammas!!!!! It is great that you are all exercising during pregnancy.

I am a personal trainer and have been for the last 15 years. I also use to compete professional all over the US and Europe in fitness competitions. I can tell you the Moms that come to me and workout during their entire pregnancy never have any problems such as high blood pressure, gestational diabetes or gain too much weight. My last pregnant client dropped 20lbs within 2 weeks of delivering her little girl. Right now she looks better than prior to becoming pregnant. It is so inspirational for me since this is will hopefully be my first full term pregnancy.

So far I have been so sick it has been hard to workout like I want. I try to do at least 45 minutes of stairs everyday and ideally would like to weight train 5 days a week.. Right now I am only getting in 2 days of weight training. However, once I feel better I will pick things up.

So glad there is this group!

Yes, those are great for my goals! I have a gym membership where they have a big lap pool, so I'll have to do that. And they also have group fitness classes in the water at certain times of the day. It's mostly older ladies, but they would probably not mind me joining, right? ;) I'll have to hit the elliptical more too! I have to admit I forget about some of the other machines as those bring back memories of injuries during college, but I do get good workouts when I'm on there.

I'm glad to see that the women who work out during pregnancy tend not to have other health problems! Whew!

fittblonde- I have to agree with you about high blood pressure, gestational diabetes and even preclampsia. I guess you could probably still get it, but your risk of it definitely decrease dramatically by excercise. With my son, I lost all my weight but 5 pounds in the first few weeks after birth and then by 3 months I had lost everything. B/c I was so much busier as a new mom, I ended up loosing another 5 pounds within the next year and maintaining it easily. I actually started 5 pounds less with this pregnancy than with my son. I'm hopeing it comes off just as easy this time, but I'm a little worried b/c I've heard from numerous people that it is harder with your second.

So glad to see everyone joining in!

I did a leisurly bike ride today after church (about 8 miles). That is my excerices for today! Anyone else?

Thanks for starting this! It's great to see there are so many pregnant ladies trying to stay fit during pregnancy.
I'm still going to the gym 2-3x a week, doing cardio and light lifting (recently started getting funny looks because my belly has just started showing). Also taking my dogs for long walks 30-60 minutes at least 3x a week.
Feeling great so far and BP, glucose, etc and perfect. The only thing is I have been eating a little too much, but I'm trying to eat healthier now.
