Emily it sounds like they might have been real contractions especially if they started not o bad then gradually otorse and were regular.
With DS I had nothing until the morning he was born. The first one I got excited and thought so that's a contraction. Then the one came 3 minutes later and they stayed at 3 minutes for 2 hours just getting stronger. I had him 5.5 hours after that first contraction.
I am not sure if this will make sense or if it is the same for everyone. This time I started getting Braxton Hicks around 28-29 weeks they are high up on my uterus at first I thought it was baby just pushing really hard, then slowly i can feel them start to spread out over my whole uterus and slowly go away. It is almost like if you were to take your hand and place all your finger tips on one spot and push down then after a moment spread your fingers apart.
The more real type contractions are lower and feel like either someone is either squeezing my pelvis very tightly together or like something is pushing out from the inside and my pelvic bones really hurt duing these. Plus they actually make me think contraction. Like i said brxton hicks made me think that it was he baby pushing.

Anyone else want to try describing it! Lol

As far as I have heard Em, Braxton's are not supposed to be painful ad do not cause distress for baby soi think hat you were having real contractions. My braxtons are uncomfortable yes, but not super painful. But they can make me stop what I'm doing, and they make me have to pee really bad from the squeezing of the bladder. Lol
For me the real contractions started more as a cramping, then the tightening and they were painful. They would start in my front and radiated to my back, I think had I gone through more of labor I would have had bad back labor bad.

thanks for attempting to describe ladies, i know its difficult!!

kryssy - can't believe you're so close!! hope your lil one hangs in there for a couple of weeks  you're technically full term at 37 weeks right?!

sarah - i'm not having contractions now lol i meant with DS...was wondering if my 35 week contractions were real. sounds like a yes from what you ladies are saying about braxton hicks!

carolanne - aww i hope we both get natural birth this time, you'll be the first VBAC of the group...hopefully followed by me!! :D

B - hope birth stories aren't scaring you lol not everyone has an emergency!

as for me - over the 15 week mark now and DYING to feel baby move. felt aaron at 16 weeks and they say you feel the second one earlier. clearly not true in my case...i feel WHERE the baby bulge is, and sometimes its a lower or higher lump in my tummy with everything shifting around in there, but i've yet to feel distinct convincing 'yep that's baby' movement. perhaps my placenta is in a different place this time making it more difficult to feel? who knows!! xx

I didnt even get to feel natural labor with my son. He just wouldn't come out and at 41.5wks they decided it was enough and he had to come out so I was induced. Those contractions are just HORRIBLE. Nothing like what they are supposed to be. I do not want to go through that again. It was literally mind numbing pain, and the fact that baby was in distress for every single one of them, made everything worse in my head. They werent one after another, they were one ON TOP OF the other. So one would start, stay active and another would already start. Oh my god, the pain!! And Sam was posterior/sunnny-side up so I had baaaaaaadddd back labor. At some point, towards the end, I had no more energy to even push him out, and he was in distress... I had been laboring for over 20hrs and he wasnt out yet. Well, my doc went to talk to my mom and said: "if she doesnt push him out NOW, I am taking him out by c-section ASAP!" I had no choice. And eventually 23hrs after going to the hospital, there he was, in my arms, all screaming and healthy. 8lbs 2oz and 21in of baby goodness. As much as those first moments with him were just amazing, I would not ever want another birth like that.

Anyway, to get back to original topic, I never had actually contractions. I had BH throughout the pgncy, but then nothing ever got more intense. And induction/Pitocin contractions are not the same, so I cant tell you what it was you were feeling. Possibly labor starting, yes.

B - I will tell you my birth story with DS so you can see a positive one.
It started at the doctors that morning. I went in at 10:30 at 39 weeks and 6 days at the end of setting up an induction and NST for the end of the week he asked if he could strip my membranes. I said okay not knowing what that was. (I now know it is very common and quite uncomfortable lol) I went to the washroom right after and was bleeding pretty good. The nurse brought me a pad as it can be normal. I walked downstairs and waited for my parents and DH to come get me as they had gone looking for something at the mall. They showed up just as I had my first contraction it was around 11 I was excited thinking that is what a contraction feels like. I get in the car and have another one about 3 minutes later. I made note of the time and 3 minutes later another one. I was thinking it was something that was normal after the membrane sweep so I never said anything. After about 10 all 3 minutes apart I did mention it to the rest of my family in the car. They were a little concerned about me having to sit at a restaurant for lunch. They decided that it would be best if we went home and then DH and my dad would just go get us lunch and bring it home. I got very upset that I was wrecking everyone's lunch and started crying thinking it was still nothing, they were still coming every 3 minutes. (They were enough to notice but not enough to be painful.) Once we got home they started to get a bit more painful, or I started freaking out that I wasn't ready and and that was making them worse lol. DH and Dad went to get lunch mom and I started timing them. They were lasting close to 1 minute and 2.5 - 3 minutes apart. I was pacing back and forth telling my mom not to touch me, see I was freaking out lol, And telling her that they were supposed to start 10 or more minutes apart! Mom got scared and that I was progressing pretty fast so she called dad and said they better just come back. They came back DH got the bag and we went to the hospital.
At the hospital I told them about my doctor doing a membrane sweep and they said well we will give it an hour to see if they stop then. They let me choose if I wanted to stay there or walk around the hospital. I chose to walk around the hospital for an hour and then come back. By the end of the walk I had thrown up in a random bathroom and spend 2 contractions on all fours in the middle of a hallway! lol
We went back and they admitted me. They showed me to a room and hooked up to check on DS heart rate. He wasn't handling things great, but they said it was normal when things moved fast. They let me go in the shower and sit on a ball. ( Which I highly recommend, it takes most of the pain away. As a contraction came DH would take the shower head and follow it from my front to my back and it felt WAY better.) My water broke about an hour later while I was on the ball.) THe contractions at that point instantly changed to VERY painful and they never seemed to stop. I told DH to get a nurse something had changed!! My nurse had of course gone on a break and the nurse he found came in and told me that basically Labour had just started it had only been an hour and I had a long time to go. Then she left. I sat there stunned. DH was furious and went to find our nurse, who thank god had just come back. She got me out and back on the bed to check on and yeah I was at 8.5 - 9 and she told me to not push yet and she was calling the doctor! I started pushing very soon after. DS heart rate kept dropping and the doctor was concerned and called NICU and couple of times. But after 28 minutes of pushing, at 5:38 pm DS was out and in my arms.
So my first labour lasted from that first contraction to holding him 6.5 hoursish.

Amazing story Kryssy! I want that one!!!! Hahahahhaa! Even though I did have a c-section the last time I am thankful that it was not an emergency and I had known for almost 10 weeks that I would most likely have one due to her presentation. I have to think that is better then going through labor and THEN having to be cut. :( So sorry Sarah!!! This time it will be different for us though. I know it!

Its is KILLING me trying to confirm the presentation of this baby, as of a week ago he was head down but I get so nervous he is going to flip! Any tips for telling ladies? I try and pay attention to hiccups and punches and kicks but its really hard for me to tell whats what in there, Seriously. Lol. And I am pretty sure he is still as I feel kicks out front. If his head was up would I be a be able to feel it undoubtedly in my ribs? I remember having SO much rib pain with Makena becaus of her head bening stuff up there and dont have that this time. The only time I have rib pain is towards the end of the day at work after sitting for a long time and after a big meal, I think both times are caused by my uterus being pushed up. Right?
Since he was head down last week is he most likely going to stay this way as he is running out of room to doa full flip? I asked the nurse and she said ya, he will probably stay. I hope she was right, what do you girls thing? If he did flip would I undoubtedly feel it? Freaking out just a little. lol. sigh.

kryssy - i second that, amazing birth story! i really really want natural this time...here's hoping we all get it too!! :D you're so close, can't wait to meet the new lil man in your life. the groups first baby! hee hee

sarah - ouch! ye not sure if i felt true contractions either - frustrating, wish i knew!! even if they were the start of labour, perhaps the bladder infection made it somehow worse or the small placenta for baby? i'll never know. lets just hope we have better experiences this time!!

carolanne - i think there's a good chance baby will stay head down. :D not sure if you'd be able to tell if baby switched, i remember my doctor prodding me and poking me at later appointments saying "here's the head do you feel?" and i was always mostly clueless lol i'd agree just to humour him. i'd say try not to worry but its probly better to say stay positive, lil boy was head down already, he knows what to do now!

B - you've survived listening to all our birth stories lol congrats! can't wait to hear yours too

ahh guys you're all SO close!!

i FINALLY went to doc today to get weighed in, pee in a cup etc. and for my referal for the 20 week scan (an important one for some reason...let me think?! :babyg: :babyb:). discovered i weigh *Drumroll* 50kgs...hmm thats what i thought i weighed before!! so the 2 possibilities are that in fact i was more like 48kgs to begin with and have put on only a couple of kgs now, OR i haven't put on any weight yet. we'll never know (i don't own scales)

hey ho i'm not complaining, i'm SURE i'll pick up weight soon...definately got more of a tummy with aaron by around 20week mark so not long to go before i 'pop' :pregnant2: xx

Ohh, I actually delivered naturally. But it was really last min. I had no choice but to push him out with 1 last push. OR was ready for me and waiting on orders from my doc.

Oh by the way, I just got back from my nutritionist appt. It didnt go so bad... I have to follow a strict diet of limited carbs and poke my finger 4x/day. For breakfast and 3 snacks, I'm allowed 30g of carbs (that includes sugar btw) and for lunch/dinner I get 45g (maybe 60g for dinner if I need it). Lemme tell ya, it goes real fast by what she showed me!

And then I go back next week for a checkup with her to see how things are going, and then in 2wks I see the OB, diabetes specialist and the nutritionist again.

Edit: And just to add to my stress, I went to pick up my prescription for the testing strips and needles. I get 2wks worth for 60$ 8O Duuuude, I can barely afford rent and bills on top of deciding if I want to eat or not. This sucks!!!! I am so glad they are lending the machine but come on!!

$60?!?? Wow, that is expensive. You will get through, at least its only during pregnancy! You just gotta have this little Eli and then you are done! :)
Glad the appointment went goo though! Yay! You eat pretty healthy though anyways right? No cravings of the bad stuff?

I just read through all your birth stories while at work right now and nearly peed in my pants. Thanks guys! I don't think I've felt any BH yet but sleeping is very uncomfortable. I wake up to tingly limbs and leg cramps all the time. It drives me nuts! And if it's not that it's the endless peeing! My goodness. Sometimes I'm like I just peed. How could there possibly be any liquid left in me to even pee out! And then deep down inside I have this horrible fear of the baby having some kind of cord accident but I try to repress it and not freak myself out. When you say you sat on a ball Kryssy, do you mean like an exercise ball? Did you have time to do an epidural then? Sarah, what was it like without an epidural?! Eeks. I'm so anxious!

Hahhahahaha *snort* I had an epidural too... AND an episiotomy (they cut me down there, instead of letting it rip naturally).

Wait, here's Sam's birth story http://myfavoriteshoes.livejournal.com/2008/11/28/
In its full detailed glory lol
