I've been put on high watch now! 32w5d

Postby JJsBump » Mon Mar 25, 2013 6:01 pm

Basically I've been put on high watch for pre e after a steadily climbing BP and platelets dropping a bit. Doc isn't sure if it's just a combo of gestational hypertension and gestational Thrombocytopenia (quite a mouthful!) or if it's pre e starting to rear its ugly head..

Good news is after lots of labs last week and no protein showing on my dipsticks (still waiting on my 24 hour urine results), my bp today was the best its been in a while and my labs today showed no red flags and doc is happy letting me continue the pregnancy...although now I will see him twice a week for appts and ultrasounds, and I've been put on bed rest or "recliner rest" (I made sure I didn't have to be laying on my side or anything bc I'd prefer to be upright because that's more comfortable for me). And I'm on house arrest too..only allowed to leave for doc appts, that's fine with me bc moving around is a total pain anyway.

More good news is babies are looking good! Baby A is 4lbs and B is 4.5 lbs. the way I look I feel like they should be like 6lbs each now! Lol. But doc is happy with their growth and ok with the fact that they're about a half a pound apart. Although he did say their abdomens were looking a little smaller which could be a sign of the placenta getting tired..or maybe just because they're getting squished?? He said he wasn't too concerned about that. Also he said their fluid looked a little lower than it has in the past...but again said he wasn't too concerned about it right now...and he will be watching them closely so I feel good about that :)

So right now I'm just happy my doc is giving me the go ahead to stay pregnant and no evictions are being made.. Gonna do whatever I can to keep them in there til 36-37 weeks, but doc assured me they would be ok if they had to come out sooner than that. Please keep us in your prayers!! :)

Oh wow! You are most certainly in my prayers and congrats on getting to 33 weeks so far.... awesome! I'll pray you can go a bit further. Keep us posted on your progress!

BTW- what have your blood pressures been? Just curious how high they consider "hypertensive" in pregnancy.

Thanks Hazel!!!

My BP has been all over the map. The Biggest reason it is concerning them is because I started out pretty low (like 106/68) and lately have had some readings like the one that set this whole thing off last Wednesday (158/89) which was the highest one I've ever seen...the general rule is you don't want to see 140/90 or higher than that on either number (though my docs have said they are more concerned about the bottom number vs the top).

Today though, BP was 134/77, I was ecstatic to see that. I'm thinking the rest (and now having my mom here in town to be with me) has helped me relax a lot. Plus I am just starting to feel more at peace with everything, knowing my boys will be ok even if they came tomorrow..and I absolutely LOVE my doctor and trust him so much and feel very happy he is watching me so closely now.

Awwww, that's wonderful to read.... "at peace"! I love it and hope to reach that place at some point here! lol!

Yeah, my BP was 140's/high 80's on Friday, but then today was 118/70's, so like you I'm all over the place. My normal BP (prepregnancy) is low 100's/60's. The problem is that they aren't worried about my BP because whenever I'm there its OK! So I'm left here to worry on my own I guess. I have an appt tomorrow so hopefully I'll get some peace of mind then.

Again, I'm so happy you're in a good place and that's wonderful that you have your mom there to help!

Yikes! Make sure you keep yourself parked on that recliner! I'm having flashbacks because my water broke at 32w6d. That's great that your dipstick didn't show any protein. When my BP started going up, I did have protein at the dr's office and my 24 hour urine was 900-something when over 300 is pre-e. So hopefully if you are developing pre-e, it doesn't progress as quickly as mine. Your boys do have great weights though. My girls were both under 4lbs at 33 weeks. That's crazy that your doctors are more worried about your bottom number. My doctors said either one they were worried but most of the time my high number was the top number. Like you, normal BP for me is like 100s/60s although for most of my pregnancy the top number was in the 120s.

I hope those boys stay cooking longer!

Sounds like you're in great hands JJ! Hope those boys stay put at least a few more weeks! I had the beginning of pre-E with my oldest and they were always more concerned about the bottom number too. When mine went over 100 (I think it was like 110 at one point!) I was sent to the hospital and delivered at 37 weeks.

Thanks ladies :)

Well I didn't get a call today and I assume my pee test results probably came back in so I'm assuming all was well on that front.

I was told the bottom number was more important because the top one can be easily influenced by stress, etc... Good news is, I've had the best BP readings last 2 days than I have in a while so that's encouraging..I think just accepting what I can and can not control at this point has allowed me to have peace. That and knowing my doctor is watching me and the boys so closely...I feel very confident he will make the right decision about when it is time for them to arrive (unless they decide on their own).

But for now I am still pregnant and although uncomfortable as crap and exhausted, I am super grateful.

Question for btdt...did you all notice a decrease in movement around now? They still bop around in there but I feel like its slowed down..I know theyre squished, that's for sure!

Also, how much growth can be expected in these last few weeks? I'm doing my best to keep the food flowing in..

Yes, they start to move less. Just make sure you do get movements throughout the day :)

And no idea, I can't remember. I always swelled alot at the end, but I don't remember exactly what I gained. It was pretty hard to eat much at the end, one bite and I was full LOL!

Keep up the relaxing!

Thanks Robin!

With growth I actually meant baby growth...Juat wondering if I do make my goal of 36/37, how much the boys could get up to from where they are now.

I'm glad to hear you're probably OK on the pre-e front. I have no idea how much they grow after this point because I delivered at 33 weeks. Just do the best you can with eating!

Thanks Robin and Cassidy :)

Cassidy: I know that obviously you would've wanted to stay pregnant longer but you really are an inspiration because your girls are just perfect (and adorable).

Have you noticed any effects of them being preemies?

I noticed the difference more when they were younger than I do now. They were almost 3 months old before they started smiling and they were SO tiny! For a long time I had to cut their bottles off at 30 minutes because at that point they were burning more calories than they were taking in. They seem to be catching up well though. When we first got out of the NICU Morgan was barely on the growth chart and Reagan wasn't even on it. At their 7 month appointment, Morgan was in the 25th percentile for height and weight and Reagan was in the 50th for weight and 75th for height! They were sitting unassisted by 7 months and now it feels like they're pretty much caught up. They don't really do things early but they do them on time which is just fine with me. Most of the time now I forget that they were preemies - except when they're around the other baby at the sitter. She was born the same day as them full term and she's a giant.

On time sounds perfect..

My DH decided to start walking when he was 7 mos old apparently, and I'm fine if these boys want to wait longer before I have to start chasing them around!!

I'm glad your girls are doing so well and I wouldn't be concerned either unless a doc was. As long as they are healthy and happy (and they sure appear to be that way in their pics!) that's all that matters :)

Also, another question for you... I think I remember you saying somewhere (dont know if it was here or ff) that you are a small frame person, etc. and I know you had gained 60lbs at this point before delivery..

I too am a small person (I'm taller but small bones and frame) and have gained about 54lbs so far.. Thing is, I feel like my babies should be gigantic but they've really been average size this whole time...and your girls were on the smaller side...just wondering why this is? Where is all the weight??lol.

Doc doesn't seem concerned with their weights but I scratch my head a little because I've literally been a garbage disposal since I got my BFP..and I read about women posting their growth scan stats and their babies are bigger..and some of these women were even sick and not eating much.

Also my DH is 6'2 and I'm 5'7 so we are not "small" people.. I guess it just must vary alot :/
