When did your swelling get bad?

Postby hazelbazel » Wed Apr 03, 2013 7:01 pm

Just in the last few days my swelling has really gotten bad, esp in my left calf/ankle/foot. My right is swollen too, but just not as much. My hands and fingers are quite swollen as well. When did it start for you? And was it sudden when it began?
DS conceived after many rounds of clomid, 5 IUI's and a vericocele repair- born 4/1/08

I started swelling early - around 20 weeks. I think I was around 27 weeks or so when it started getting worse and wouldn't go down at night anymore.

My swelling was horrible during my first twin pregnancy. Even with bedrest and keeping my feet up frequently, my swelling continued to progress throughout the pregnancy starting at 22 weeks. I would recommend compression stockings. even ones that cover the feet. they really help and I thought they felt good. My swelling got so bad that I got cellulitis in my legs which was extremely painful and couldn't stand or walk, I had to be wheelchaired to my appointments. you might also want to consider prenatal massage. I got 1-2 prenatal massages per month during my second twin pregnancy and I got very little to no swelling. they may require a note from your OB, but the drs usually don't have any problems with having them done unless you have some other medical issues going on.

I started swelling really bad around 29 or 30 weeks. I remember my friend's husband saying to me "I'm sorry...but I just can't stop starting at your feet and legs! I've never seen anything like that!" It was terrible. I ended up getting custom compression hose...like pantyhose, but a soft panel for the stomach. They were so tight, my husband had to roll them on me with rubber gloves, but they WORKED! It made an incredible difference. I did ask for the compression knee highs, but my OB said no, I needed the full hose.
