twins with soy?

Postby JNL07 » Thu Jun 27, 2013 3:22 pm

:hi: Ladies!! Just a quick question here. One of my very good friends is pregnant with twins! :yay: She told me she took Soy at the beginning while they were ttc bc her mirena messed up her cycles. Her Dr thinks that may be why she got pregnant with twins. Ive never heard of this, could this be true? Im thinking its just because it runs in her family ( her littlle sisters are twins). Im so curious about this :D :D :D

I know nothing about the actual facts, but I do recall reading when I was going through infertility that people who didn't want to use Clomid to stimulate ovulation used some kind of soy. Clomid makes some women produce more than one egg per cycle, so I'm assuming if soy is used sometimes it probably does the same.

And if the women in her family have a propensity to ovulate more than one egg per cycle, then that could be why she is having twins (if they're fraternal).

I don't know about the soy thing, but I do know there is annectdotal evidence of a higher chance of twins after mirena use. I had also been on mirena just before conceiving the twins..... If you google it you will see lots of information.
DS conceived after many rounds of clomid, 5 IUI's and a vericocele repair- born 4/1/08
DD conceived naturally first try! - born 1/29/10
Boy/Girl Twins! Conceived after 3 months of trying, BFP month was a clomid cycle- born 7/8/13

Apparently something called "soy isoflavones" can have clomid like effects..so perhaps it did cause her to release more than one egg!

Congrats to your friend on her twinks!
