One Twin's Sac measuring small? UPDATE 2nd U/S

Postby ukcatgirl » Tue Jul 02, 2013 10:14 am

We did our first IVF last month and transferred two great looking embies. At our first ultrasound yesterday we found out that as of right now we are pregnant with twins!

Baby A is measuring exactly on track at 6w5d with a HB of 141 and Baby B is measuring 6w4d with a HB of 129 but Baby B's gestation sac is much smaller and my RE warned that though he is not giving up on Baby B in the least, he also would not be shocked if Baby B does not make it.

We have been TTC for 2+ years so I'm just happy to be pregnant at all and I know that whatever God's plan is, that is what will be. I was just wondering if any of you twin momma's have any experience with this type of issue.

Just quickly looking at other topics I've seen accounts of vanishing twin/triplet where the actual baby measures several days behind but my Baby B is pretty close (especially considering they probably didn't both implant at exactly the same moment) but the sac being so much smaller is the concern.

Anyone have any experience?

Thanks so much!!

First, congrats on your pregnancy!!!!

My twins always measured 2-5 days apart, always Baby B and my doctors were never concerned about it and the only reason I knew was because I read it.

Hope all goes well!

Congrats! Mine never told me anything about sac size. Only baby size and they were usually about a day or so apart

They seem fairly close in size. Usually twins in 2 different sacs (di/di twins) can measure a bit differently because they're 2 totally different babies.

In my case, I was initially pregnant with triplets. I had my first u/s at 6w4d. Babies A&B were measuring right on track with heartrates of 129 and 134. Baby C was measuring about a week behind and had a heartrate of 93. They told us it could go either way, but there was a good chance Baby C wouldn't make it. 2 weeks later at 8w4d, the Baby C had indeed passed, about a week prior. But in my case there was a much bigger difference between Baby C and my twins. I do also know a mom on another forum who had a very similar 1st ultrasound, but her triplet caught up and she made it all the way to 34 weeks.

Good luck with whatever happens and congrats on your pregnancy!

Ryan congrats on your twins!!

My boys measured a couple days off here and there so don't be concerned about that. I have no experience with the size of the sac being an issue but I know I've read a lot of posts where it turned out to be just fine!!

Thanks everyone for replying!

I guess I'll find out what's going on at my next u/s on the 15th. I'll definitely update! I can't find much info on the sac measuring small, google usually scares me to death anyway so I try to stay away. Whatever will be will be, so it's definitely in God's hands. I'm doing everything I can to be healthy and give these babies a good "home" in there, that's all I can do!

Thank you JJ and CONGRATULATIONS on your boys!! They are SUPER adorable!!!!!!!!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! As far as measurements, twins almost never measure the same, they are always off by a few days. But if the sac is small that is cause for concern. Hopefully it's nothing and you have a HH9. T&Ps to you and KUP! :D Welcome to the multiples board!

Mine always measured quite a bit differently. Early on they said B probably implanted a few days earlier but it continued through the whole pregnancy. Actually at birth they were only 9 oz different which was much closer than they had measured for the last several months. Now after their birth, I have one who is a great eater and is growing like a weed and my smaller one battles me at every feeding and still after 3 weeks cannot suck hard enough to breastfeed. In any any case, with di/di twins, they are two completely different pregnancies, just at the same time.

Re: One Twin's Sac measuring small? Update 2nd U/S

Postby ukcatgirl » Tue Jul 16, 2013 6:40 am

The baby with the smaller sac stopped growing at 8w1d, I'm 9w today. I'm a little sad but it's all God's plan.

Baby A is right on track with a HR of 178 and I've been released from my RE to my regular OB/GYN.

Thanks for the replies and support!

Ukcat - I'm sorry to hear of your loss :( same thing happened to me a couple of moms back. Had my ivf in April with a positive beta in early may. When I went for my 7w scan it showed twins, one right on track, the other much smaller with no hb. The second baby has since then been reabsorbed and my singleton is doing great. I had no complications or spotting due to this, and I hope it is the same for you.

All the best wishes.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes! I appreciate it. I am certainly ecstatic that baby A is thriving.

I am glad to know that I probably won't see any complications, MommaMac. I asked my RE if I would see any bleeding and he said probably not and that Baby B would just be absorbed in a few weeks.

I had prepared myself well for this outcome so it wasn't such a shock to me. It took so long to get here that I am just going to accept that I was only meant to have one baby this time around. We really just want two kids so if it was twins, we were probably done and I was kind of sad thinking this might be my one and only pregnancy (praying that everything goes well for the next 30ish weeks, of course). Now I get to do an FET of my one perfect day 6 frostie in a couple years. Everything happens for a reason. :)

Sidenote: I am going to have to remind myself I wanted to go through this whole pregnancy thing again in a couple years because right now, m/s is kicking my butt. Only one week left of PiO though... so at least there's that!

Thanks again :)
