In the home stretch

Postby Andrea19 » Fri Aug 30, 2013 12:30 pm

So I'm 34 weeks today... crazy! I thought I'd start a new thread where I can put updates over the next couple of weeks until these babies arrive.

Overall, I'm doing okay. I'm super uncomfortable and have so much pressure down low, it's getting difficult to just walk around. But since I stopped working my swelling is down and my blood pressure is still really good - yesterday it was 106/60. I've been doing weekly NSTs and the two I've had so far have been normal. My doctor fully expects that I'll go to 37 weeks, at which point I'll likely be induced.

I'll keep you posted with any changes or updates...

Sounds like you are doing very well, and the babies too! Won't be too much longer. The last few weeks aren't the most fun, but it'll all be worth it very shortly ;)

Great job on baking your babies! Crazy to think you have less than 3 weeks if your doctor induces at 37 weeks!

Good job!

any reason to induce at 37 weeks? are your twins identical?
I was pg with fraternal twins and had my c/section at 38w5d. you can go past 37 weeks unless there are medical reasons to induce earlier than that.

I see a huge difference in the growth of my identical twins that were born at 36 weeks over my fraternal twins. my fraternal twins seem to meet more of their milestones earlier.

Yeah mine are mono-di identical twins, so they would induce due to concerns about the placenta. My doctor did say he would consider letting me go to 38 weeks if everything looks perfect at 37 weeks, so we'll see!

Today I had another NST and my 35 week appointment. Everything continues to look really good! BP is great, there's no change in my swelling, and the babies are doing really well. I was surprised my doctor didn't do a vaginal exam given the amount of pressure and cramping I've had in the past week. But I have another growth scan on Monday and I know they will check my cervix then.

Despite the good health report, I'm feeling pretty uncomfortable and miserable. Even sleeping is difficult and I'm exhausted all the time. I'm glad that we probably have another two weeks for the babies' sake and so we can finish getting the house ready, but I'm not sure how I'm going to last another two weeks. One day at a time I guess...

Growth scan today at 35+3 and the babies are doing great. Baby A is approx 5 lb 2 oz and Baby B is approx 5 lb 8 oz. They're still long and skinny, but the doctor wasn't too worried about their small abdomens because they continue to grow and are making good progress. So no more growth scans since there was nothing concerning today, now we just wait for the babies to arrive!

Well I'm pretty sure I lost part of my mucus plug last night and I've been having contractions all day. They're stronger than my usual BH but not painful and pretty far apart. I know it would be better for the girls to stay out for another week or so, but I kinda hope this is the start of something because I am soooo ready to be done.

36 week update... well I'm technically 35+6 but my doctor considers me 36 weeks, so be it. :)

Had my usual OB appt this morning and everything is looking good. NST was normal. My bp is a little higher than usual but still really good. Swelling is still there but no change from last week. My weight seems to have reached a plateau - I'm up 45 lbs and haven't gained any weight in the past two weeks, which I think I'm more worried about than my doctor. The babies' weights are good, so I guess that's what really matters.

I'm continuing to lose my mucous plug in small globs, but I'm not dilated at all yet. My doctor thinks it's possible that I might go into labor on my own in the next week, but we went ahead and scheduled an induction for the end of next week anyway. The plan is to go in Thursday night to start cervidil and then hopefully have the babies on Friday. I'll be 37 weeks exactly.

Any tips on how to jump start labor so I can avoid induction? I've heard nasty things about pitocin and would rather go into labor on my own.

Sounds like everything's going great!

I don't have any tips on helping you go into labor as mine came spontaneously but you're almost there!!
