Braxton Hicks

Postby Bailierae » Thu Sep 12, 2013 2:07 pm

So, I think I have started having Braxton hicks, but I'm not sure... When did you all start having them? Should I be concerned if I'm having them already and contact my doctor?

I had them from 14 weeks on I'm pretty sure. I didn't realize that's what they were until 18 or so. My doc said as long as they aren't getting longer, stronger and closer together not to worry about it. And no more than 6 in an hour for more than one hour in a row. I'm sure there were times I had more than 6, running through Manhattan to catch a train around 20 weeks I know I had them nearly nonstop for like 30 minutes. But when I was in the hospital at 29 weeks to have my boys (bc of Pre-e, unrelated) I hadn't dilated past a fingertip, so they weren't doing anything.

Just editing to add, though my doc and all my nonstop panicked googling said not to worry, I was constantly worried about them until I developed the pre-e and had bigger things to worry about. So I know it's easier said than done!! Drink a lot of water, lay on your left side, try to relax are the main pieces of advice I got.

Isn't it crazy we worry about getting pregnant then when you finally are its an entirely different worry and you just want to make sure your doing all you can for your babies. I've been working two jobs and I gave one of them my notice on Monday so now ill be off by 2 everyday and be able to go home and rest which I know will help cause working 10.5 days wears me out and when I get home I grab some food and lay on the couch lol. I'm probably going to continue laying on the couch when I get off but I think I will feel much better all around and not like I'm over doing it. Thanks for your advice I really appreciate being able to come on here and ask questions!!

I also didn't realize I was having them when they started..I even posted here that I thought it was someone moving around lol.

I think it was around 15 weeks or so for me, maybe 16.

Everything Robyn said was great advice. Though I would let your doctor know that you're having them, doesn't hurt to make sure they aren't changing your cervix (true BH shouldn't). I think it's just good to keep your doc aware of what's going on with you and the babies.

I also found that if I let myself get hungry, I would have them and if I let my bladder get too full, I would have them. So keep eating and keep peeing lol. ;)
