I was also told that I wouldn't be able to get out of bed until after 24 hrs, so I probably won't be able to see my babies until then (since they would most likely be in NICU). I was hoping that I could start to try to feed them right away but it seems that I was too naive. From what others have told me, preemies around this gestation don't know how to suck...not even bottles, let alone from the breasts. Is that true for you ladies?

It depends on the baby at this point I think. Mine were 33 weekers and Reagan's nurse actually tried giving her a bottle by like day 2 and she was sucking like a pro. By day 3 the neonatologist told me I could try actually nursing her and she latched on fairly easy - not on the first try, but during that first session. Morgan had more trouble. They were in 2 different parts of the NICU and had 2 different nurses for a while. Morgan's nurse was much more conservative and wouldn't even try bottle feeding her until she had gained more weight so it took until Morgan was closer to a week old before she was really able to latch and suck.

If your babies do go to the NICU and you're stuck in bed, tell your nurses that you want to start pumping. The LC came to my room the day mine were born after I had a chance to recover from surgery and she showed me how to pump. I would pump every 3 hours like clockwork, DH would get up and wash the pump parts and then he'd bring the BM to the NICU. They will give your babies breastmilk first when they have it, and then formula if they need it. By the time my 2 came home from the hospital they were pros at switching back and forth between breast and bottle, and also formula and breastmilk. Ultimately the only reason nursing didn't work out for me was my lack of supply. The girls were great at it.

Good luck!

How wonderful you made it so far! I will be thinking of you as you welcome your new little ones to the world! I will especially be praying for a positive birthing experience for you, your doctors seem so negative about everything - it must be such a downer for you and make it hard to actually enjoy and appreciate the wonderful and miraculous event of bearing children and bringing them into the world!

I think latching is very child specific. My middle child was a 34 week baby and he latched/sucked just fine right away. My third child was a 38 week baby and it took weeks to finally get a good latch from him.

:ptl: God is great! I have delivered and now home with 2 sweeties and 1 will come home tomorrow!

So sorry that I haven't showed up for such a long time...I have wanted to tell all of you how everything turned out but I have been soooo busy.... To make it short for now, I did have a horrible episode of losing a lot of blood and possibility of losing my uterus. Went into the delivery room in the morning and came out at evening! Thank God everything turned out fine with a surgery and all babies are well! They did have to stay in the NICU for a bit because they turned out to be under 4 lbs. All of them were able to feed on the bottles from the beginning. Two of them were discharged on day 11 and one of them could be discharged yesterday but we choose to take her home tomorrow because we need some time to adjust!!

Life has been hectic and I could barely get any sleep. I feel sooo exhausted. Hope it gets better soon. :P

I would like to thank all of you for all the support you have given me through these months. I am really grateful for your prayers and support! You are all so wonderful! :.)

Will come back when I have time! God bless!

Hi Jasmine,

Just wanted to check in and say I have been thinking of you and saying prayers for you and your new family. I'm hoping that everyone is home, adjusting to the new schedule :-) and that you and your hubby are enjoying hugging and kissing those sweeties. Praying that you are on the mend and getting some rest. I know that it is probably so hectic. I can't even imagine what it would be like to have 3 newborns at once. Anyway, prayers as always for you and your family. God Bless!!
