frequency of U/Ss

Postby ready2bmom » Fri Feb 07, 2014 9:32 am

Hi ladies-

I'm 22wks with B/G twins, and I'm 43yrs old with history of 3 M/Cs (all before 13wks).
My OB said I wouldn't need a high-risk specialist, and she's been monitoring me every 2 weeks with U/Ss to check cervix length and fetal growth. But I noticed that after my 24wk U/S, she doesn't have me come for another U/S until 32wks! **this is as long as my cervix still looks great at the 24wk appt.

This sounds crazy to go 8wks without an U/S when I've been going every 2wks. I thought U/Ss became more frequent as you go thru the PG.
Wanted to get your opinions...Sounds like I should at least have a 28wk U/S.
I'm just nervous to miss a flag that might require bedrest or intervention or something...

thanks!

I was every 4 weeks until 28, then every 2 (though at my 28 week I was admitted for pre-e and my kids were born a few days later). Just OB til 20 weeks, then 20/24/28 with MFM as well.

Not to scare you, but its a good thing I had my 28 week scan as I felt 100% fine, but my babies were teeny and not growing and needed to be delivered. And my BP had skyrocketed to 154/110 or something, despite me having no swelling or symptoms. I'd maybe inquire as to why, my docs were very accommodating if I wanted an extra scan.

And congratulations on your twins!!!!

I saw both my OB and my MFM the whole pregnancy. I had u/s every 4 weeks until I hit 28 weeks when they were every 2 weeks. I also started having NSTs at 32 weeks that I would have on alternate weeks to my u/s so I was essentially checked weekly. It turns out my 32 week NST was when they noticed my BP was consistently staying over the 140/90 mark. I ended up having to do a 24 hour urine and was officially diagnosed with pre-e at 32w6d. I was put on bedrest, I went home and my water broke that night. I delivered my girls the next day at 33 weeks exactly.

Like Robyn I felt TOTALLY normal with sky high blood pressure. I was really shocked at how high my readings were in the hospital.

Chances are, you probably won't have the complications the both of us did, but I'd still insist on more frequent monitoring because things can change so fast in a twin pregnancy.

Thanks - both of you!
I agree that it's better safe than sorry. I go for a scan at week 22 and then a scan & the Gestational D testing at week 24 when I'll see my Dr too. I'll talk to her then and make sure she's ok with at least doing a scan at week 28.

She hasn't mentioned anything about the stress testing, but hopefully that's in her plan too.
Either way, with what we've been through to get here, I don't want to take any chances. I've already been backing off of work (I'm a pers trainer- so lots of time on my feet), and spending more time on the couch with my feet up!
