How early can you reasonably suspect multiples?

Postby RoloCat » Sun Jul 13, 2014 7:03 am

I'm 40yo, and got a [somewhat surprise] BFP last week Monday at 8dpo. It was only our 3rd cycle TTC, and I had become so stressed out about it, we had actually decided to stop trying next month.

Anyway... My FRER's rapidly progressed from 8-12dpo, where it seemed that I finally overtook the control line (not by much, but clearly darker). A CB Digital on Thursday (11dpo, or 3w4d) showed at 1-2wk. Today's CB Digital at 14dpo (4w0d) shows 2-3wk.

My hcg betas quadrupled from 34.5 on 10dpo (11am) to 139 on 12dpo (10am).

I had a "feeling" I was pregnant on 1dpo this cycle. I've also had a "feeling" that it will be twins.

What kind of beta numbers or hpt progression should I be looking for to support this theory (not confirm, I know, but just support)?

Thanks

I suspected twins when i got clear BFP at 8dpo, 2-3 on digi at 12dpo - i didn't have beta's they don't do them here. It crossed my mind but my symptoms were nothing out of the ordinary, if anything better than some singleton pregnancies, so figured it wasn't and i just had a strong sticky bean lol

How wrong was I! lol x

I'm going to try to get another blood draw mid-week this week. Want to monitor my progesterone and see what those hcg numbers are doing.... Also figure I'll take another digital in the 4w3-4d range and see if it shows 3+...

Don't know why I feel this way, I just do. I haven't seen many positive hpts that early...

Eh... not "looking for" an answer either way. I just want to know so that we can prepare accordingly. :) At this point, I just want a healthy baby(ies) and for everything to go smoothly.

I also suspected twins right away. I knew that I could have ovulated two eggs, because two large follicles were seen two days before I got my positive OPK. I had lots of cramping, and around the time frame where I would have implanted I had lots of pulling, and tugging, and found myself touching my belly--something I used to do when I was pregnant with my son. I also got my first faint BFP at 8 dpo--of course, I never really knew I would have twins, but in the back of my mind I knew it would be amazing! We didn't see the two sacs until my second ultrasound at 7 weeks, and even then, my husband was the one who pointed it out--the doctor didn't notice it!!!!

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!! Let us know how it goes!

I had no idea! I knew I had ovulated 4 follicles, but that had happened in previous cycles without BFP. On 10dpo I POAS in the morning prior to my beta and it was BFN. However my beta was 19 with progesterone of 78. My beta at 14dpo was 200 and progesterone. I had little to no symptoms.

By the way, have you checked out betabase.info? It is a great resource for betas in single and multiples pregnancies.

I've wondered this too, I am 15dpo and my HPTs have been noticably darker each day since my clear BFP on 11dpo. I had 3 days of cramping (10-12dpo) with two days of spotting (11 and 12 dpo) then a little cramping and spotting on 14dpo and then neither today. But I have been increasingly exhausted too, going from taking 1 short catnap in the evening for a few days to taking 3 of them today. It was kind of ridiculous. I've attached the picture of my HPT progression, and I'm waiting on the results of my betas that I had 12dpo and 15dpo and should get them tomorrow or Wednesday at my doctor appointment. Twins don't run in my family but I even had a dream on 13dpo that I was having twins, so I have no idea if my brain is just crazy or potentially hinting to something. What do you guys think of my progression? It looks similar to the ones on the mulitples POAS thread to me, to be honest.

Edit: my betas were 288 on 12dpo (according to fertility friend) and 908 on 15 dpo with a doubling rate of 40 hours. :D even if a singleton those are numbers I am super happy with as was my nurse.

Hey, Ladies,

I'm in a similar boat- we got our BFP on Wednesday @ 14dpiui and beat the control line with a 3.5 hour hold. Our first beta at 15 dpo was 504 with progesterone at 60. Our 2nd beta isn't until Monday (boo!). I was looking at beta base and we're currently beating the median beta for singletons, twins, and triplets. eek!!

I'm praying for a number at or near 2000 on Monday and that we get in for an u/s the week after...I'll be (God willing) 6 + 1 on DH's birthday and would love to get a scan that day.
Baby #1 EDD: 3/25/2015
Beta 1 (15 dpo) 504
Beta 2 (19 dpo) 1767
Beta 3 (21 dpo) 4056

It's twins!

Well... I can't get back in for another blood draw (they won't do another test unless there's a reason), so I can't see how my numbers are progressing. I did beat the FRER control line by 12dpo, killed it at 14dpo. But CB digi was still showing 2-3w yesterday (18dpo), so I'm now doubting my initial suspicion of twins... Guess I'll find out one way or another at my first u/s in 4wks...

Good luck to all the ladies that are wondering if it is Twins.... I also just "Knew" I was having Twins!!!! I was seeing them everywhere and just had a feeling. We found out very early!!!! Found 2 sacs at 5 weeks 1 day and then had it confirmed a week later at 6 weeks 1 day. My numbers were also pretty high and doubling but only had 2 draws. once we saw the 2 sacs there was no need for blood we just did U/S from there on every couple days. The wonderful thing about multiples is that you get to see your beautiful babies sooo much. Especially in the beginning. I have zoo many pics and videos of my girls already :) I got my BFP at like 10dpo but I had to wait that long cause I had used a trigger shot and that can give you a case positive so i had to give it time to get out of my system :) All my info is in my signature so i might be off with the numbers but it was pretty long ago lol. Hope all you ladies the best of luck and if you do end up with Twins or more please come on over to the 2014 Pregnant with Twins thread!! There wasn't an active board when I first found out I was pregnant with Twins so I started one and it has been growing like crazy :) lots of very useful information and good support system in my opinion. Congrats ladies and good luck!!! But either way enjoy your pregnancy whether it be a singleton or more :)

Hi RoloCat! I posted over on 1st tri board about my betas with my twins early on. My OB never mentioned anything that my levels were high or how quickly they increased. I had a super super faint pos at 8 dpo and a def on 9. My betas for the twins were: 10dpo=28/ 12dpo=80/ 18dpo=605 first u/s at 6 weeks saw one definite baby and was told to come back in 2 weeks because they werent sure if there was a 2nd...2 weeks later, there was definitely 2. With this pregnancy, I got a positive at 10dpo and my betas were 11dpo= 33 and 14dpo=136. So they can be close. I had no idea I was having twins and my early preg was easy with them as I had hardly any symptoms at all.
