Angela's spirit baby story got me thinking about the poems and stories I found over the last few months that helped me, and I thought I would share with you:

*some of these came from other ladies and other forums or just the general internet but I'm sure they won't mind if I share*

Please share any stories, poems, songs etc that have significance to you too...

Ask My Mum How She Is...

My Mum, she tells a lot of lies,
She never did before.
But from now until she dies,
She'll tell a whole lot more.

Ask my Mum how she is
And because she can't explain,
She will tell a little lie
Because she can't describe the pain.

Ask my Mum how she is,
She'll say "I'm alright."
If that's the truth, then tell me,
why does she cry each night ?

Ask my Mum how she is,
She seems to cope so well.
She didn't have a choice you see,
Nor the strength to yell.

Ask my Mum how she is,
"I'm fine, I'm well, I'm coping."
For God's sake Mum, just tell the truth,
Just say your heart is broken.

She'll love me all her life,
I loved her all of mine.
But if you ask her how she is,
She'll lie and say she's fine.

I am Here in Heaven.
I cannot hug from here.
If she lies to you don't listen,
Hug her and hold her near.

On the day we meet again,
We'll smile and I'll be bold.
I'll say, "You're lucky to get in here, Mum,
With all the lies you told!"

These are my footprints, so perfect and so small.
These tiny footprints, never touched the ground at all.
Not one tiny footprint, for now I have wings.
These tiny footprints were meant for other things.
You will hear my tiny footprints, in the patter of the rain.
Gentle drops like angel's tears, of joy and not from pain.
You will see my tiny footprints, in each butterflies' lazy dance.
I'll let you know I'm with you, if you just give me the chance.
You will see my tiny footprints, in the rustle of the leaves.
I will whisper names into the wind, and call each one that grieves.
Most of all, these tiny footprints, are found on Mommy and Daddy's hearts.
'Cause even though I'm gone now, We'll never truly part.

The world may never notice if a flower doesnt bloom
or even pause to wonder why the petals fall too soon
but every life that ever forms, or ever comes to be
will touch this world in some small way for all eternity.

BORROWED ANGELS - BY KRISTIN CHENOWETH

They shine a little brighter, they feel a little more
They touch your life in ways no one has ever done before
They love a little stronger, they live to give their best
They make our lives so blessed, so why do they go so soon?
The ones with souls so beautiful
I heard someone say--

There must be Borrowed Angels, here in this life
They come along, into this world, and make this world bright
But they can't stay forever
Cause they're heaven sent
And sometimes, heaven needs them back again

They reach a little deeper, they see what's in your soul
And even when they leave you know, you'll never let them go
The world's a little richer, just cause they came along
Their love goes on and on, so why do they go so soon?
The ones with souls so beautiful. I heard someone say--

There must be Borrowed Angels, here in this life
They come along, into this world, and make this world bright
They can't stay forever, cause they're heaven sent
And sometimes, heaven needs them back again

How else can you explain why they're here and not here to stay?
I believe there must be, must be

Borrowed Angels, here in this life
They come along, into this world, and make this world bright
But they can't stay forever, cause there heaven sent
And sometimes heaven needs them back again.
And sometimes heaven needs them back again.

It must be very difficult
To be a man in grief,
Since "men don't cry" and "men are strong"
No tears can bring relief.

It must be very difficult
To stand up to the test
And field calls and visitors
So she can get some rest.

They always ask if she's all right
And what she's going through
But seldom take his hand and ask,
"My friend, but how are you?"

He hears her crying in the night
And thinks his heart will break
And dries her tears and comforts her
But "stays strong" for her sake.

It must be very difficult
To start each day anew
And try to be so very brave ~
He lost his baby too. . .

Give What’s Left Of Me Away

Now that I’m gone,
remember me with a smile and laughter.
And if you need to cry,
cry with your brother or sister
Who walks in grief beside you.

And when you need me,
put your arms around anyone
and give to them
what you need to give to me.

There are so many
who need so much.
I want to leave you something.
Something much better
than words or sounds.

Look for me
in the people
I’ve known and loved or touched
in some special way.
Let me live in your heart
as well as your mind.

You can love me most
by letting your love
reach out to our loved ones.
By embracing them
and living in their love.

Love does not die,
people do.
So, when all that’s left of me is love,
give me away as best you can.

He Never Knew

A flicker of sunlight
One moment in time
One blink of an eye
Lullabies silent
Questions of why
Searching for answers
I know I won't find

But I'll find some comfort
Knowing he knew love
And I'm glad there are things
He never knew of...

He never knew hunger
He never knew fear
He never knew violence
Some children face
He never knew bigotry
Color of skin
He never knew hatred or sin
And I find some comfort in this

He never knew anger
Never knew war
He never knew poverty
Outside his door
He never knew loneliness
Some must endure
He never knew these things exist
And I find some comfort in this

A flicker of sunlight
In a Grandmother's eyes
Tears are still falling
And will for some time
For there are some things
I wish that he knew
Taken for granted
By both me and you

But I'll find some comfort
In this heart that he touched..
For there's one thing I'm sure of
I know he knew LOVE......

Craig Cardiff - Smallest Wingless

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxcLm4ZA45E

Dear son, we've been waiting for you
Thrilled beside ourselves that you've arrived
White coats came in, heads held low
Talked for a bit, shuffled outside

We closed the curtains,
Held each other,
And cried
We said hello at the same time that we said goodbye.

And smallest wingless, oh you came to us
Leaving as soon as you'd arrived
But sadness is just love wasted
With no heart to place it inside

We closed the curtains,
Held each other,
And cried
We said hello at the same time that we said goodbye.

We closed the curtains
Held on to one another
And cried
We said hello at the same time that we said goodbye.

A letter from Erin to Connor

My sweet little brother.

Life is not like this. You have not lived. Let me tell you how it really is

When you live…
Your time will be for years and years, not a few short weeks.
You are surrounded with people you love and call mum mum, and daddy, not people whose names end in ologist.
People who know your name and call you Connor or Erin, not Baby Matthews
You sleep snuggled in soft blankets on your Mummy’s chest, not staring out from clear Perspex.
Eventually you even get brave enough to have your own bed.
Hugs are Daddy’s arms tight around you keeping you warm and safe, not just a pillow on his lap.

Computers are for Zip and Mac and learning ABCs and sharing sweet words with others far away, not for displaying numbers that quantify the beat of your heart
Convenient foods come in cans, not down a tube.
Tiny teddies, chocolate, cheerio sausages and ice-cream all taste so good.
Avocado, however, does not.
The music that surrounds us is the wheels on the bus and giggles and Pink floyd, not incessant beeps and alarms followed by running footsteps
There are more books than “that is not my kitten” and “giraffes can’t dance”
In fact there are whole libraries.
Seeing a different view is the Eiffel tower and Aroa beach in Raro, not moving to a bouncer on the floor.
We did get to go on a cool plane together though.

Joy is running along the beach and playing in the sea for the first time, not a day where you get to have a bath.
Although baths with rubber duckies and bubbles and splashing are fun too.
There are always more hugs, tickles, cuddles and kisses, you only have to ask, or run away giggling

Mummy’s tears are for moments of joy and pride and accomplishment
And your breath can only be taken away by the beauty and wonder of sheer existence

My sweet little brother, I’m so sorry you never really lived; I will live for you instead

The Water Bug Story
Down below the surface of a quiet pond lived a little colony of water bugs. They were a happy colony, living far away from the sun. For many months they were very busy, scurrying over the soft mud on the bottom of the pond. They did notice that every once in a while one of their colony seemed to lose interest in going about with its friends. Clinging to the stem of a pond lily, it gradually moved out of sight and was seen no more.

"Look!" said one of the water bugs to another, "One of our colony is climbing up the lily stalk. Where do you think she's going?" Up, up, up it slowly went... Even as they watched, the water bug disappeared from sight. Its friends waited and waited but it didn't return...

"That's funny!" said one water bug to another... " Wasn't she happy here?" asked a second... "Where do you suppose she went?" wondered a third... No one had an answer. They were greatly puzzled.

Finally one of the water bugs gathered its friends together. "I have an idea. The next one of us who climbs up the lily stalk must promise to come back and tell us where he or she went and why." "We promise" they said solemnly.

One spring day not long after the very water bug who had suggested the plan found himself climbing up the lily stalk. Up, up, up he went. Before he knew what was happening, he had broken through the surface of the water and fallen into the broad and free lily pad above.

When he awoke, he looked about with surprise. He couldn't believe what he saw. A startling change had come over his old body. His movement revealed four silver wings and a long tail. Even as he struggled, he felt an impulse to move his wings... The warmth of the sun soon dried the moisture from his new body. He moved his wings again and suddenly found himself above the water.

He had become a dragonfly. Swooping and dipping in great curves, he flew through the air. He felt exhilarated in the new atmosphere.

By and by the new dragonfly landed happily on a lily pad to rest. Then it was that he chanced to look below to the bottom of the pond. Why, he was right above his old friends, the water bugs! There they were scurrying around, just as he had been doing some time before.

Then the dragonfly remembered the promise. without thinking, the dragonfly darted down. Suddenly he hit the surface of the water and bounced away. Now that he was a dragonfly, he could no longer go into the water...

"I can't return!" he said in dismay. "At least I tried. But I can't keep my promise. Even if I could go back, not one of the water bugs would know me in my new body. I guess I'll just have to wait until they become dragonflies too. Then they'll understand what has happened to me, and where I went."

And the dragonfly winged off happily into its wonderful new world of sun and air...

Dear God, please remember my loved one who has left the pond we live in...and remember me...

What Makes A Mother

I thought of you and closed my eyes
And prayed to God today.
I asked what makes a Mother
And I know I heard him say.

A Mother has a baby
This we know is true.
But God can you be a Mother
When your baby's not with you?

Yes, you can He replied
With confidence in His voice
I give many women babies
When they leave is not their choice.

Some I send for a lifetime
And others for a day.
And some I send to feel your womb
But there's no need to stay

I just don't understand this, God
I want my baby here
He took a breath and cleared His throat
And then I saw a tear.

I wish I could show you
What your child is doing today.
If you could see your child smile
With other children and say

"We go to earth to learn our lessons
Of love and life and fear.
My Mommy loved me oh so much
I got to come straight here.
I feel so lucky to have a Mom
Who had so much love for me
I learned my lesson very quickly
My mommy set me free.

I miss my Mommy oh so much
But I visit her each day.
When she goes to sleep
On her pillow's where I lay.

I stroke her hair and kiss her cheek
And whisper in her ear.
Mommy don't be sad today
I'm your baby and I'm here."

So you see my dear sweet one
Your children are ok
Your babies are here in My home
And this is where they'll stay.

They'll wait for you with Me
Until your lesson is through.
And on the day that you come home
They'll be at the gates for you.

So now you see what makes a Mother
It's the feeling in your heart.
It's the love you had so much of
Right from the very start.

Through some on earth may not realize you are a Mother,
Until their time is done.
They'll be up here with Me one day
And you know you're the best one!

I'm so sorry you are having to plan a funeral right now. That's one of the hardest things a mother or father can do. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
