So nervous- On pregnancy 10

Postby Leannamoonbody » Tue Mar 12, 2013 4:21 pm

32 and on pregnancy number 10. I have had 8 losses... ranging from Chemical, blighted ovum, Twins with extra chromosome....

Ugg and here I am pregnant again and in a world of worry. I have one little girl, my miracle :D and my last pregnancy a few months ago really hit hard. At almost 8 weeks we saw the little bean and a heartbeat of 128. One week later our little bean stopped growing.I got the same answer I always do from the docs... Sorry just bad luck. How is it bad luck to have 8 losses? Every test done, no answers. Everything looks great with both me and DH. I withdrew from family and friends for awhile after my loss in September. I just couldn't believe after seeing a nice healthy bean, that something just went wrong. I still have bean's ultrasound pic, and cannot bear to part with it.

Now I am 6 weeks and the docs have me doing beta's like they are going out of style. Here is the info: what do you all think?
LMP: 1/28/13 - pretty sure but not 100%
+ ovulation test 12th- so ovulation 12-36 hours later, Ovulation 13th.
Faint positive 2/20/13 7dpo?
Beta 1:8 dpo :2/21/2013: 13
Beta 2:10 dpo 2/23/2013: 30
Beta 3: 16 dpo: 3/1/2013: 68
Beta 4: 19 dpo: 3/4/2013: 135
Beta 5: 26 dpo: 3/11/2013: 607

So the doc calls today and tells me my latest beta.I ask if my levels look normal according to 6 weeks. He seems to think they are and things are going great. he then tells me next monday I get another beta, to see if I reach 1800-2400, that way he can set me up for an ultrasound next Wednesday.

I dunno this doc seems to make me feel more anxious and nervous about the pregnancy. I remember the first time I got pregnant, I was so excited, and now at number 10 every doctor's visit, every blood test ... and every ultrasound just feels like dread. Am I the only one who feels that way? I just wish I could relax and stop over analyzing everything and being a worry wart.

Your numbers seem really low for where you should be. Have you used a beta base to see doubling times. I have had 4 losses and 1 of those I had seen a hb and then at 12 wks. it had stopped. I took that loss very hard. I know how hard it is to enjoy a pregnancy after a loss. I just had 2 in a row and my last loss I felt great and I thought I felt a little to great so I asked to get numbers done around 32 dpo. They came back at 9,000 and I knew right away something was wrong because they should have been in the 30,000's at least. It took 5 days from that blood draw for the 9,000 to double. I was in my 8th week and when they did a u/s I had a sac measuring 5wks. and only a yolk sac visible. So I was right and glad I had gotten the numbers drawn because they told me something was not right. I got pregnant a couple of months later and had numbers done to make sure all was well. They doubled nicely and I just saw a baby with a hb on Monday.
I hope everything turns out ok for you. I just wanted to share my experience.

Yes, my doubling time seems to be 3 days, or about 72 hours. My dates could be off just a bit, perhaps just turning 6 weeks, so my beta at 5 weeks 5 days may have been 607 instead of at 6 weeks/ 6 weeks 1day. I am trying to be optimistic, but realistically the numbers do seem a bit low, but they are doubling in the 72 hour window. I guess I just could be a slow riser.

It is on the low end of the range, but it seems to still be in the normal range. The more important thing is that it is doubling about every 48-72 hours, which is what they look for in the early weeks. I think the doc is on the right track with the close monitoring and doing the ultrasound as soon as possible.

The reason for the lower numbers is very likely to be that you probably ovulated a bit later in the cycle, and you may have implanted towards the end of the typical 6-12 day implantation period. Plus, implantation could have taken up to a few days, so all those factors could leave you closer, as you said already, to being about 5 or 5-1/2 weeks rather than 6 or just over 6. At this early stage of the game, even a few days can make a big difference. I hope everything goes well and that your next level shows a good rise and a then a good ultrasound!

Bazil,

Thank you for your reply. I think it is possible. I know I had a positive ovulation stick on the 11th,12th. I had my first very faint barely there positive on the 20th using dollar tree test, the morning of the 21, on a frer it was more noticeable. My beta on that day was 13, and definitely was lower the day before. Maybe implantation started on the 17,18 or 19th of Feb.

So still waiting for my next beta on Monday. So far no bleeding what so ever, and no spotting at all. I haven't seen any blood at all since my lmp 1/28/13. Hoping all goes well. Doc seems to think yes its on the lower side, but still doubling within the 3 day period. I wish there was a way to trace back how many weeks I am by implantation date, which I am almost positive was the 17, or 18th.

I was just wondering if you have ever gotten tested for blood clotting problems? Like thrombophilia or the MTHFR factor? Also has your Dr suggested taking extra folic acid? After 3 losses my OB suggested to take 4mg of folic acid and 1 baby asprin a day. After our last lost in May 2012 at 11 weeks we found out that I have 2 mutations of MTHFR. Something that they had not even previously explored because the general clotting test I got was normal. Which from what I understand is pretty common. To pass the basic blood clotting test but fail the actual gene test for MTHFR.

Hope you get answers soon.

And just so you know mama, at what was supposed to be 8 weeks with my daughter my Hcg was only 1336 they did an ultrasound and she was just barely pushing 5 weeks 2 days. Her beta's slowly rised from 40 to 87 to 250 with a doubling time of 87 hours and she is a healthy and happy girl who is turning 4 on March 19th!! So its totally possible to have a normal pregnancy with slow rising numbers. Good luck mama.

Oktober,

Thank you for your story! Yes I had EVERY darn test. I was praying at that point something would come back wrong or abnormal, just so I know what needs to be fixed, but nope everything is fine, clotting as well.
I am taking pre-natels as well as folic acid. I think my dates are off by 2-3 days so that may be enough to make the levels normal. I will find out Monday.
